SoilFLO provides a material visibility platform that helps companies track the custody, logistics, and compliance of materials like soil, stone, and hazardous waste across the land development supply chain. From condo digs to some of the largest infrastructure projects in the world - highways, tunnels, quarry rehabs - we build tools for earthmovers that tackle their biggest environmental, operational, and commercial inefficiencies.

What you'll be doing
You'll be building the interfaces our customers interact with every day - translating complex logistics and compliance workflows into clear, usable experiences. Working in React and TypeScript, you'll own components end-to-end from design handoff through to production.
Day to day, you will:
Co Creation of features in collaboration with other Software Engineers, Product Managers, and Product Designers
Write tests, improve observability, and understand the impact of your work on the team and platform
Work closely with Backend Engineers to define and consume APIs, and with Product Designers to ensure what we ship matches the intent and quality our customers expect
Investigate technical problems and document your findings so the team can learn from them
Help improve our frontend architecture, component patterns, and design system
Improve the tooling we use and support and mentor other software engineers regardless of seniority
Once you've gained a strong understanding of the platform, you'll have the opportunity to serve as Tech Lead for new features - a rotating role tied to specific work.
On-call rotation: You'll serve as Sprint Protector and Incident Watch in two-week rotations shared across all 10 software engineers. Occasionally this may require evening or weekend response. On-call time is compensated with equivalent time off.
About the Engineering Team
We have a CTO (Eric Brooke) and eight engineers, growing to ten with this hire and a Backend Engineer hire. Both roles report to the CTO.
We work in two teams: Carbon (Platform focus) and Soil Troopers (Product focus), each supported by a Team Lead, Product Manager, and Product Designer. The team is mostly based in Ontario and works remotely, with some engineers using our office alongside Sales, Customer Success, and Product. We get together every quarter in Toronto.

About you
You're adaptable, proactive, tenacious, curious, and own the quality of your work
You've been working as a software developer or engineer for 5 to 8 years with a strong focus on frontend, and you love building interfaces people actually want to use
You enjoy working across disciplines - with engineers, product managers, product designers, and customer success
You have experience scaling a frontend and navigating the problems that scale brings
You care about the user experience - not just whether the code works, but whether it works well for the person using it
You're a technical educator, not a technical dictator
Requirements:
JavaScript & TypeScript - Proficient in both, with strong opinions on how to use TypeScript well
React - Deep experience with hooks, functional components, and state management
Styling - CSS/SCSS, responsive design, and component-based styling approaches
API Integration - Experienced consuming REST APIs, handling async state, error handling, and loading states using TanStack Query
Testing & Quality - Unit testing (Vitest), integration testing (React Testing Library), E2E testing (Cypress), documentation, observability
Browser & Performance - Understanding of browser rendering, performance profiling, and accessibility fundamentals
Frontend Architecture - You can discuss different architectural approaches and articulate their trade-offs
AI-assisted development - You use tools like Claude or Copilot as part of your workflow and can speak to how they've helped you ship better work
Communication - Strong collaboration skills; you write clearly and communicate technical ideas effectively

Nice to haves:
Progressive Web App Experience (incl. offline mode)

The Take Home will be in TypeScript with React. We will score it on:
a) Complete to spec
b) Code was readable and used TypeScript and React well
c) Component structure and separation of concerns
d) Was easy to setup and run by the reviewers
e) Quality work
f) Observation work
11. Interview 2 (Tech Interview) - 50 mins · Engineers review your Take Home, and give you feedback on your submissions · Then they will ask you to add a feature live with two engineers Edin Kaymakchi Tim Radder
