Join the kitchen team of the PeakFine Restaurant and Barrique & Java café at Sparkling Hill Resort & Spa. We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic Pastry Cook who enjoys baking, takes pride in presentation, and brings a positive attitude to a busy kitchen.
Reporting to the Executive Chef, you will prepare baked goods and desserts for the resort’s dining outlets, banquets, and special occasions. This is a hands-on cooking position focused on daily preparation, consistent execution, and keeping the pastry section organized and ready for service. You will work closely with the kitchen team to produce fresh, well-presented items that contribute to a memorable dining experience.

Duties:
- Prepare and bake pastries, cakes, cookies, breads, and other baked goods, along with dessert components such as fillings, creams, sauces, and garnishes.
- Follow established recipes, production lists, and portion standards to maintain consistent flavour, texture, presentation, and quality.
- Organize daily mise en place and coordinate preparation and baking times to meet service and event requirements.
- Plate and finish desserts for restaurant service, and prepare items for banquet buffets and plated functions.
- Prepare and decorate birthday and special occasion cakes according to approved guest requests.
- Follow food safety procedures, including temperature control, safe cooling, allergen handling, and prevention of cross-contamination.
- Label, date, store, and rotate ingredients and finished products correctly; monitor freshness and minimize waste.
- Keep workstations, equipment, refrigerators, and storage areas clean and organized; use equipment safely and report maintenance concerns.
- Monitor ingredient levels and assist with stock counts, ordering requests, and receiving pastry supplies as directed.
- Support the kitchen team with related preparation and other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 1-2 years’ baking or pastry experience in a professional kitchen requiered
- Experience in a luxury hotel with comparable service and standards an asset
- Working knowledge of basic baking techniques, recipe measurements, and dessert preparation, with attention to detail.
- Valid Food Handler Certificate required.
- Good communication skills, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage preparation tasks efficiently and maintain consistent standards during busy periods.
- Ability to perform the physical duties of kitchen work, including standing for extended periods and safely handling ingredients and equipment.
- Availability to work flexible shifts, including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
