Senior CICS Systems Programmer
Location: Scarborough, ON - Hybrid (or Toronto office)
Work Arrangement: 2 days/week onsite
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary: $81,000–$115,000 base
Hours: Monday–Friday with rotating after-hours/on-call support
What You’ll Do
- Act as a senior technical resource for the CICS infrastructure on z/OS.
- Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, and support CICS and related IBM products.
- Plan, analyze, design, build, test, and implement CICS-related infrastructure initiatives.
- Troubleshoot complex CICS and z/OS issues and perform platform-level diagnostics.
- Support CICS application development teams from an infrastructure perspective.
- Contribute to CICS platform standards, usage, future-state planning, and technical direction.
- Work with related technologies including CICSPlex, CTG, z/OS, SMP/E, Omegamon, and System Automation.
- Provide technical consultation to architects, application teams, and other infrastructure groups.
- Mentor and support less-experienced CICS Systems Programmers.
- Participate in rotating after-hours/on-call support.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with hands-on CICS systems programming experience, rather than someone whose background is primarily CICS application development.
Required / Key Experience:
- 5–10+ years of CICS and/or relevant mainframe experience.
- Hands-on experience supporting CICS on z/OS.
- Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting IBM mainframe products.
- Strong understanding of CICS and CICSPlex.
- Strong understanding of z/OS architecture and components.
- Experience with z/OS and CICS diagnostic tools.
- Working knowledge of IBM SMP/E.
- Experience with Omegamon and/or System Automation is valuable.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical teams.
A Key Differentiator
Hands-on IBM SMP/E experience is highly valuable for this role.
We are specifically looking for candidates who have personally worked on the installation, maintenance, configuration, upgrades, and lifecycle management of IBM mainframe products.
Education
College/University education or equivalent professional experience.
