Our client within wealth management located in Markham requires an Investment Operations Analyst to join their team. This is a hands-on role responsible for the accurate and timely implementation and administration of investment transactions across a large number of client portfolios. Working closely with the Portfolio Managers, you will help ensure that investment decisions are translated into accurate transactions, properly allocated to client accounts, reconciled and followed through to completion.
The role is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving discrepancies, building organized processes and getting the details right. It requires a high degree of responsibility, accuracy, accountability and process discipline.
You will not be expected to speculate or make investment decisions. Rather, you will develop a strong understanding of how a disciplined portfolio management firm implements and administers investment decisions on behalf of its clients.
Responsibilities:
- Execute purchases and sales of stocks, bonds, GICs, savings products and other investments as directed by the firm's Portfolio Managers.
- Accurately allocate block trades across individual client accounts.
- Monitor portfolios to ensure they remain aligned with established investment models and identify items requiring attention.
- Identify and resolve excess cash, discrepancies, missing transactions and other account exceptions.
- Process incoming and outgoing client funds and ensure transactions are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
- Process TFSA purchases, RRSP and FHSA contributions, and RRIF and LIF withdrawals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client account and transaction records.
- Perform detailed reconciliations, allocations, calculations and account reviews using Excel.
- Learn and utilize Harmony Portfolio Management Software and other systems used by the firm.
- Develop, maintain and continually improve organized processes, checklists and controls to ensure that required transactions and follow-ups are completed and nothing falls through the cracks.
- Work closely with Portfolio Managers and other members of the team to resolve issues and ensure smooth day-to-day portfolio administration.
Role requirements:
- Have a strong quantitative or mathematical aptitude and an intuitive understanding of percentages, allocations, weighted averages and basic financial calculations.
- Are highly proficient in Excel and comfortable working with large amounts of numerical data.
- Have exceptional organizational skills and an unusually strong attention to detail.
- Approach work in a methodical, thorough and process-oriented manner.
- Naturally notice when something doesn't look right and are persistent about finding the reason and resolving the issue.
- Take ownership of your work and can be relied upon to follow tasks through to completion.
- Can manage multiple priorities without losing track of details.
- Are comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with a small, experienced team.
- Prefer disciplined, evidence-based investing to speculation and are interested in developing a deeper understanding of prudent portfolio management.
- A background in actuarial science, mathematics, accounting, finance, economics, engineering, statistics or another quantitative discipline would be an asset.
- Previous experience in investment administration or portfolio operations is an asset but is not required for the right candidate.
- Familiarity with Canadian registered accounts and investment products, including TFSA, RRSP, FHSA, RRIF, LIF, GIC and savings products
- Experience with Harmony Portfolio Management Software is a bonus.
- Investment licensing is an asset but not required.
