We are seeking a Process Engineer (P.ENG) to join our engineering project team. The successful candidate will develop, review, and oversee process engineering deliverables for industrial EPC projects executed from the Calgary office, ensuring safe, operable, energy-efficient, and code-compliant facility designs.
The successful candidate will also bring experience in process simulation, heat and material balances, PFDs and P&IDs, process datasheets, line sizing and hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, relief and flare studies, control philosophies, utilities and offsites, process safety studies, vendor reviews, and multidisciplinary coordination. Knowledge of applicable CSA, ASME, API, Alberta regulatory, and client requirements is also required.
🔍 Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review design basis documents, process descriptions, heat and material balances, process simulations, PFDs, UFDs, and P&IDs.
- Perform line sizing, hydraulic calculations, equipment sizing, utility consumption estimates, and process performance evaluations.
- Prepare and review process datasheets and specifications for vessels, exchangers, pumps, compressors, packages, and other process equipment.
- Develop and review relief load calculations, pressure-relief device sizing, flare and depressurization studies, and safeguarding requirements.
- Define process control narratives, operating philosophies, start-up and shutdown requirements, alarm and trip set points, and cause-and-effect inputs.
- Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, model, constructability, operability, and P&ID reviews; close assigned actions with traceable technical justification.
- Review vendor proposals, calculations, drawings, and operating data for compliance with process requirements and project specifications.
- Coordinate with mechanical, piping, control systems, electrical, civil, structural, fire protection, HSE, and operations stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during procurement, construction, commissioning, performance testing, and Management of Change activities.
- Authenticate professional engineering documents within the engineer’s area of competence and in accordance with APEGA and company professional-practice requirements.
✅ Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive process engineering experience in Oil & Gas, LNG, power generation, petrochemical, energy, or heavy industrial EPC projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Process Engineering from an accredited university.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered and in good standing with APEGA (Alberta) is mandatory. EGBC registration, or eligibility to obtain it, is considered an asset.
- Hands-on experience preparing and reviewing process design deliverables through FEED and detailed engineering for Canadian EPC projects, including operability, start-up, shutdown, and safeguarding requirements.
