The Tunneling Company is a leading trenchless construction contractor specializing in microtunneling, HDD, auger boring, pipe ramming, and other underground construction methods across Western Canada and the United States. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Shop Foreman to lead our maintenance team and ensure our fleet, equipment, and tooling remain safe, reliable, and project-ready.
The Shop Foreman is responsible for supervising shop personnel and coordinating all maintenance, repair, fabrication, inspection, and preparation activities related to company vehicles, heavy equipment, tooling, and support assets. The Shop Foreman takes direction from and reports to the Operations Manager and is responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained in a safe, operational, and cost-effective manner.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Lead and supervise daily shop operations and shop personnel.
- Schedule, prioritize, and coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs for heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, tooling, and support equipment.
- Perform and assist with troubleshooting, repairs, fabrication, and equipment inspections.
- Ensure equipment is prepared and ready for field operations and mobilizations.
- Monitor and maintain parts, consumables, and shop inventory levels.
- Coordinate equipment inspections, certifications, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair documentation, and work orders.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with company policies and safe work practices.
- Mentor, train, and support mechanics, apprentices, and shop personnel.
- Work closely with Operations and Project Teams to support operational requirements.
Experience and Training Requirements
Required
- Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic, Welder, or equivalent trade certification
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy construction equipment.
- Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory or lead-hand experience in a maintenance shop environment.
- Experience planning and scheduling maintenance activities.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Proficient with maintenance records, inspections, and equipment documentation.

Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Ability to obtain and maintain site safety certifications.
Asset
- Class 1 or Class 3 Driver's Licence.
- Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, and overhead cranes.
- Knowledge of inventory control and parts procurement.
- Experience using maintenance management software or fleet maintenance systems.
- First Aid Certification.
- CSTS, WHMIS, Ground Disturbance, and other construction safety certifications.
