Large Boring Mill Machinist – Newmarket, ON
Full-Time, Permanent | Day & Night Shift | Hiring 2 to 3
A well-established, world-class tooling manufacturer in Newmarket is growing its large boring mill team. They are a global leader in large high-pressure die cast tooling, supporting powertrain, body, and structural components for major automotive OEMs, and they also take on large-scale nuclear work.
A brand new large boring mill is being installed and is expected to be up and running early next year. They want experienced people in the door now, so you can get settled, learn the shop, and be trained up on the new machine before it goes live. This is an ASAP hire.
About The Role
This is a skilled position for someone who already knows their way around a large boring mill. You will be machining big work: large die shoes and heavy components in the range of 10 to 12 feet in diameter. Setup is a big part of the job here, so you need to be confident rigging, moving, squaring up, and setting large blocks safely and accurately.
- Set up and run large horizontal boring mills on heavy, high-value work
- Handle, rig, and position large blocks and die shoes using overhead cranes
- Indicate, square, and align large workpieces to tight tolerances
- Read and interpret blueprints and work from setup sheets and programs
- Check your own work and keep quality high from first cut to final pass
- Train on the new boring mill ahead of its launch early next year
What We Are Looking For
Please note this role is not suited to new or entry-level machinists. We need people who can hit the ground running.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience running large boring mills
- Background on large die shoes or large nuclear components (10 to 12 ft diameter range) is strongly preferred
- Proven skill moving and setting up large blocks safely and precisely
- Solid blueprint reading and precision measurement skills
- A reliable, team-first attitude and good communication with your shift
- Heidenhain or similar control experience is an asset
Shifts
Both day and night shift positions are available
- DAY SHIFT: 7:30am - 4:30 pm (Monday to Thursday) and 7:30am-2pm on Fridays
- NIGHT SHIFT: 4:30pm-2:30am – ( Monday to Thursday) Lunch is paid, 15% shift premium
- When busy - Overtime is available but not required
