Machine Shop Leadhand
Location: Edmonton, AB | On-site
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM | Day Shift
Compensation: $43-$46/hour, depending on experience + overtime

We are partnering with a leading manufacturing facility to hire a Machine Shop Leadhand for a newly created day-shift position.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced CNC Machinist with a strong process and engineering mindset who is ready to take the next step into leadership. Reporting to the Machine Shop Foreman, you'll spend approximately 20% of your time hands-on with CNC machining and programming and 80% leading the team, optimizing processes, and resolving production bottlenecks.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and organize the day-shift machine shop team, assigning work and supporting a collaborative, high-performing environment.
- Partner with the Foreman, Production, and Engineering teams on capacity planning, delivery schedules, and production priorities.
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks, errors, and process inefficiencies to improve productivity and reduce costs.
- Perform hands-on CNC machining and programming as required.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure products meet quality, cost, safety, and schedule expectations.
- Drive continuous improvement by recommending practical process and workflow improvements.
- Leverage shop-floor expertise to identify opportunities for improved designs, processes, and preventative measures.
- Support succession planning, employee development, and interviews as required.
- Champion a strong safety culture and maintain high workplace safety standards.
What You Bring
- Alberta Journeyman Certificate or Red Seal certification as a CNC Machinist.
- High school diploma.
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment, including CNC programming and knowledge of CNC and manual machining.
- 1+ year of leadership experience is preferred.
- A methodical, process-driven approach with strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring and working effectively with a diverse workforce.
- Custom manufacturing experience is an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or other ERP systems is highly preferred.
- A strong commitment to workplace safety.
BFOR / Physical Requirements: Due to the safety-sensitive and physically demanding nature of the position, successful candidates will complete a pre-employment medical evaluation. Passing the Level 1 fitness test on the first attempt is a bona fide occupational requirement (BFOR).
