Role Overview
The Estimator supports project acquisition and successful project delivery by preparing accurate cost estimates for building envelope projects involving any of the following: prefabricated wall panels, curtain wall/façade systems, or factory-applied exterior finishing (EIFS and Rainscreen systems). This role reviews project drawings, specifications, and scope documents to determine labour, material, and equipment requirements for both factory-based manufacturing and field installation, ensuring bids are competitive while maintaining project profitability. The Estimator works closely with project managers, manufacturing/production teams, business development and sales teams, suppliers, and senior leadership to ensure estimates accurately reflect panel design, production sequencing, and installation methods.
Success in this role means bids are prepared accurately and on time, project and manufacturing risks are identified early, and production teams receive clear cost breakdowns that support efficient factory scheduling and site execution. Over time, the estimating process becomes more accurate and predictable as historical production data, market pricing, and installation methods are continuously refined.

What You Bring to the Table
Technical Skills
- 3+ years of estimating experience within prefabricated wall panels, curtain wall/façade systems, or building envelope manufacturing (offsite/panelized construction experience strongly preferred)
- Ability to perform detailed material and labour take-offs from architectural and structural drawings, shop/fabrication drawings, and manufacturer specifications, in any of the following scopes: panel assembly, curtain wall/façade systems, or factory-applied finishing (EIFS and Rainscreen systems)
- Working knowledge of unitized wall assembly systems, panel-to-panel connections, thermal/air-barrier continuity, and how design decisions translate into production sequencing and cost is an asset
- Proficiency with estimating software, Excel, and digital take-off tools; familiarity with CAD-based takeoff a strong asset
- Experience coordinating supplier and subcontractor pricing (studs, insulation, finish systems, glazing components) to develop competitive project bids
- Knowledge of Ontario construction practices, high-rise/multi-storey envelope requirements, and applicable building code and certification standards
- Comfort estimating across both a factory production cost model (labour hours, line throughput, material yield) and a field installation cost model (crew productivity, site logistics, weather/schedule risk)
- Background or education in architecture, architectural technology, or building science is an asset - helps in interpreting design intent and envelope detailing during takeoffs

Duties & Responsibilities
- Review and interpret architectural drawings, structural drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand project scope, wall panel systems, and factory-applied finish requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes for prefabricated wall panel, curtain wall, and/or factory-applied exterior finishing projects.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs for panel assemblies, structural connections, insulation, air/vapour barrier components, and finish systems, with familiarity in EIFS and Rainscreen systems.
- Develop labour cost estimates covering both factory production hours and field installation crews, based on productivity expectations and applicable collective agreement requirements.
- Coordinate with material suppliers (studs, insulation, finish systems, glazing) and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and verify material availability and lead times.
- Identify project and manufacturing risks, scope gaps, or technical challenges during the estimating process and communicate findings to leadership and production teams.
- Prepare complete bid submissions including cost breakdowns, scope clarifications, and supporting documentation.
- Work closely with business development and sales teams to support pursuits, respond to RFPs, and shape proposal pricing strategy.
- Work closely with project managers and production teams to ensure estimates align with manufacturing capability, production sequencing, and installation methods.
- Participate in pre-construction, pre-production, and project handover meetings to ensure alignment between estimating, manufacturing, and field execution.
- Maintain organized records of project estimates, pricing history, supplier quotes, and bid documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, cost tracking, and pricing strategies through continuous improvement, feeding lessons learned back into future estimates.
