The
Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a
Research Project Coordinator. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This recurring part-time position located in Calgary and situated in the Faculty of Social Work (FSW), reports to the Principal Investigator, works closely with the project staff and provides guidance to junior team members. This position will support the Principal Investigator's multiple projects to provide coordination, identify solutions and provide advice and recommendations regarding processes, policies, and practices. The role requires in-depth knowledge and experience in own discipline, continues to acquire higher-level knowledge and skills, has knowledge of the university and institutional processes and policies with limited guidance and direction. The role requires explaining complex information to others and building relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to the university.
The Research Project Coordinator will work Monday to Friday, up to 35 hours week, depending on peak periods. There may be occasions the Research Project Coordinator will be required to work outside of normal business hours for events.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Pre-Award Facilitation Support (40%):
- Assisting with internal and external funding applications, including advising on deadlines and requirements, application development, and submissions.
- Completing literature reviews, building on expanded conceptual knowledge in own discipline.
- Provision of standard advice on proposal budget development, provision of preliminary/basic review of budget drafts vis-Ã -vis internal and external guidelines and for consistency with proposed work and other parts of the application, based on sound judgement and analytical skills and using existing University and Agency guidelines.
- Other tasks as required, in close collaboration with and under leadership of the Principal Investigator.
Post-Award Facilitation Support (40%):
- Assisting with coordination of and provision of advice relative to junior team members relative to research project activities.
- Completing ethics applications, reports, extensions, and a range of standard post-award processes and procedures (e.g. provision of standard advice and coordination and completion of paperwork including project set-up and maintenance forms for standard requests, securing Faculty level approval), based on sound judgement and analytical skills and using existing University guidelines and protocols as applicable to the specialized area of post-award research facilitation.
- Completing paperwork related to other research activities and project support, as required.
Other Research Facilitation Support (20%):
- Connecting with internal and external stakeholders, as needed.
- Providing mentorship to junior team members, related to the research projects.
- Similar tasks as research project unfolds.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Masters degree in progress, required.
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (such as social work, education or psychology), required.
- Solid grasp and understanding of UCalgary strategic plans, practices, procedures, processes, protocols and policies, as well as structure, governance and decision-making processes, as these relate to the area of research facilitation, required.
- At least 5 years of experience working in the educational system, including postsecondary, with knowledge of research focus areas related to the Faculty of Social Work and experience assisting with social work research support, required.
- Experience providing research support related to supporting siblings who have a sibling with a disability and/or health condition, required.
- Experience on research support on the impact of climate change on individuals, required.
- Solid grasp and understanding of the research funding and awards landscape relative to research support needs in this area, as well as proven ability to apply that knowledge and experience to problem solving in this area, as well related new areas, required.
- Solid grasp and understanding of pre- and post-award processes and requirements for external (Tri-Council and other) and internal (e.g. VPR Catalyst and Connector grants) funding applications, required.
- Familiarity and experience with UCalgary's Research Management System, Supply Chain Management processes (e.g. supplier setup, invoices), PeopleSoft, UCalgary Teams, processing of various payments to employees and non-employees, as well as to students, journal transfers/corrections, funding application budget development, required.
- Solid understanding of experience with and demonstrated ability to use AI in the academic setting and for various job assignments, in an efficient and ethical way, required.
- Proven organizational and time management skills with an excellent ability to set priorities and complete multiple tasks within specified timelines and fast paced environment to meet deadlines, required.
- Proven excellent oral and written communication skills (experience with newsletters, minute taking, drafting of manuals and other internal documents, efficient communication with faculty members, students and staff including exchanging information, asking questions, and ensuring understanding, building favorable relationships with Faculty internal and external stakeholder), required.
- Knowledge of research ethics requirements, privacy and data security standards, and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) - related considerations is an asset. Experience with provision of professional/specialized and area specific advice and guidance, as well as training relative to organization's processes and procedures and capacity building, required.
- Proven analytical skills and strong judgment relative to decision making and confidentiality considerations and high attention to detail, required.
- Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office and Outlook applications, solid skills in Adobe Pro, SharePoint, Zoom and Microsoft Teams, required.
- Familiarity with using analytical software, including SPSS, required.
- Experience with project support for project management and conduct of scoping reviews, including management on Covidence, required.
- Experience with conducting qualitative interviews with diverse stakeholders, required.
- Experience with financial and budget administration tasks, required.
- Willingness and ability to take on new tasks and challenges on a daily basis, requiring a steep learning curve and assertiveness to tackle new challenges and assignments, and accountability for developing required knowledge, required.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as collaboratively in both virtual and in-person team environments with a range of stakeholders, required.
