Merchant
About the Role
As Merchant at Westbeach, you'll be the commercial lead, connecting design, the customer and the buy. Your job is to make sure we have the right product, in the right colours and depth, at the right price, landing at the right time in store and online. You'll live and breathe our sales and sell-through, know what is and isn't selling and why, and use that read to steer design and shape each season's assortment. You'll own the line plan and the buy end to end, from building the plan to placing the orders. You'll report to the CEO and work as a close partner to the Design Lead, balancing creative vision with what our customer buys.
This is a role for a self-starter. Nobody will hand you a playbook, a clean dataset or a task list. If the report you need doesn't exist, you build it. If something is stuck between design, retail, ecommerce or operations, you break down the wall and get the answer yourself. It's perfect for someone who optimizes for getting things done, figures things out on their own, and would rather make a call and correct it next week than wait for perfect information. At a brand in relaunch, every season is a chance to rebuild the line around what our customer is telling us.
What You'll Do
- Sales & Financial Results: Own the line's sales, margin and inventory turn targets. Drive the results in season through reorders, markdowns and reallocation, not just the analysis behind them.
- Sales & Performance Analysis: Read weekly sales, sell-through and customer trends across the store and online. Spot top sellers, emerging opportunities and styles that need more inventory support, and act on what you see.
- Line Plan & Assortment: Build each season's line plan, setting category mix, product selection, colour and unit depth across knits, sweaters, wovens and the rest of the line.
- Line Editing & the Buy: Decide what to put forward, what to drop, what to lift and what to carry over. Edit the Design Lead's first draft of the line, then build and place the buy.
- Reorders & Core Product: Own reorders and decide when a product is core or seasonal, keeping our best sellers in stock and our seasonal product moving.
- Master Line Tracking: Own the master line board and seasonal buy log with the GTM Coordinator as the single source of truth for pricing, delivery, colour, bookings and units.
- Seasonal Market Read: Set each season's trend and market point of view, grounded in sales and customer insight, and carry the lessons from the season in market into the next one.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Drive product direction across Design, Marketing, Retail and Operations so it carries through consistently from concept to launch. Lead and develop the GTM Coordinator, who owns the master calendar and takes product from order to store and site.
What We're Looking For
- 5-10 years of experience in merchandising, buying, or planning at an apparel brand, preferably one selling through its own stores and ecommerce.
- A true self-starter who takes ownership, moves without being asked, and figures things out independently.
- Relentless about getting things done, with a track record of pushing through obstacles and closing loops across teams.
- Proven ability to read sell-through and turn it into assortment decisions that worked.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills and the discipline to keep a line board accurate down to the colour and unit.
- Strong commercial fluency in margin, pricing, unit depth, sell-through, and weeks of supply.
- Confident, direct communicator
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

- Real Ownership: You'll work directly with leadership and see your decisions show up in the line and on the floor.
- Culture-Led Brand: Built by and for people who live the lifestyle.
- Room to Grow: As the company scales, so will your role and opportunities.
