About The Role
We are currently seeking a talented and dedicated Data Engineer to join our Information Technology Department at our Leamington office. This is a full-time, permanent position that plays a vital role in managing and optimizing our data infrastructure. The Data Engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting database and pipeline issues, designing and implementing data controls, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure data quality and integrity. The role involves automating manual processes, developing scalable data solutions, and leveraging AI tools to enhance data documentation and visualization. The successful candidate will also provide training and support to users, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking organization committed to sustainability and technological advancement.
Qualifications
- Educational background in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field (preferred)
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator, Data Engineer, or similar data-focused role
- Strong working knowledge of relational databases and SQL, primarily Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, indexing, performance tuning, and backup/recovery
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools and pipeline technologies such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, or similar
- Proficiency in data profiling, root cause analysis, and developing data quality metrics using BI tools like Power BI
- Experience automating data processes using scripting or query languages such as Python, PowerShell, or T-SQL, with version control knowledge (e.g., Git)
- Familiarity with AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Copilot for data documentation and visualization
- Knowledge of data governance, cataloging, and metadata management practices
- Experience with cloud data platforms and storage solutions such as Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, or Amazon S3 (asset)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail
- Ability to lead troubleshooting sessions and communicate technical information effectively to diverse stakeholders
- Valid passport, driver’s license, and personal vehicle; ability to travel within Canada and the US
- Physical ability to lift and carry items minimum 20 lbs (depending on role requirements)
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot database and pipeline issues, performing data profiling and root cause analysis independently
- Review Source-to-Target Mapping documents and data dictionaries to ensure data accuracy and consistency
- Design, develop, and implement data controls to maintain data integrity from source to target systems
- Lead triage meetings with global stakeholders to identify and resolve data issues collaboratively
- Maintain and enhance the organization’s data library and related process documentation for traceability and visibility
- Automate manual data processing tasks and develop scalable, repeatable data solutions
- Collaborate with technology teams to integrate databases with applications and analytics platforms
- Develop metrics to monitor data quality across source systems using analytical tools like Power BI
- Leverage AI tools to create documentation, data dictionaries, process write-ups, and dashboards for stakeholder understanding
- Provide training and support to users on data processes, tools, and system updates
- Foster a productive, innovative, and professional environment while adhering to health, safety, and biosecurity policies
- Ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures, completing physical and operational requirements as needed
