Kubernetes Architect (Cloud Platform & DevOps)
Location: Greater Toronto Area (GTA), ON
Work Model: Hybrid (2 days onsite per week)
Engagement: 6-Month Rolling Contract with Strong Contract-to-Hire Potential
About The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled
Kubernetes Architect to join a growing Cloud Engineering team focused on modernizing enterprise platforms and accelerating cloud adoption. This role is ideal for a hands-on architect who is passionate about cloud-native technologies, platform engineering, automation, and DevOps transformation.
You will play a key role in defining cloud platform strategy, architecting scalable Kubernetes solutions, and enabling development teams through modern CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and cloud-native best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, build, and evolve an Integrated Developer Platform (IDP) that accelerates application delivery through standardized, gated CI/CD pipelines and automation.
- Define and champion cloud platform, DevOps, and platform engineering architecture standards across the organization.
- Design scalable automation frameworks and tooling for cloud infrastructure and application deployment.
- Establish Kubernetes architecture standards, reference implementations, and best practices across enterprise environments.
- Lead technical decision-making and provide guidance to engineering teams on Kubernetes, cloud-native architecture, and DevOps practices.
- Partner with application development teams, cloud engineers, and architects to build reliable, secure, and highly automated cloud solutions.
- Drive adoption of GitOps methodologies, Infrastructure as Code, and modern deployment strategies.
- Contribute to cloud governance, security, observability, and operational excellence initiatives.
Required Experience
- 10+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Engineering environments.
- 8+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale Kubernetes, DevOps, and CI/CD solutions.
- Proven experience owning architecture decisions and technical strategy for cloud-native platforms.
- Strong background in full-stack development, platform engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or infrastructure architecture.
Technical Expertise
Kubernetes & Cloud Platforms
- Deep expertise designing and managing Kubernetes platforms in enterprise environments.
- Experience with Kubernetes deployments across public cloud platforms such as Azure and/or GCP.
- Strong knowledge of Kubernetes networking, service mesh, ingress management, and cluster governance.
- Experience building secure, scalable cloud-native architectures.
DevOps & CI/CD
- Extensive experience designing CI/CD pipelines and software delivery platforms.
- Strong expertise with:
- GitHub Actions
- Jenkins
- Artifactory
- ArgoCD
- Argo Workflows
- GitOps practices and deployment automation
Infrastructure as Code & Automation
- Expert-level experience with:
- Terraform
- Ansible
- Python
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Configuration management and automation frameworks
GitOps & Platform Engineering
- Experience implementing enterprise GitOps architectures.
- Hands-on expertise with:
- ArgoCD
- Kargo
- Crossplane
- Helm
- Kustomize
Networking, Security & Governance
- Strong understanding of:
- Network architecture and routing
- User Defined Routes (UDRs)
- Azure Policies
- Kubernetes Network Policies
- Security, compliance, and cloud governance controls
- Experience managing secrets, certificates, and secure workload delivery.
Observability & Monitoring
- Experience designing modern observability strategies using:
- Prometheus
- Grafana
- Logging, metrics, and distributed tracing solutions
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with React, TypeScript, Node.js, JavaScript, or Backstage.
- Cloud and Kubernetes certifications such as:
- CKA
- CKAD
- CKS
- Azure Certifications
- GCP Certifications
- Experience leading architecture review boards or technical design reviews.
- Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery teams.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
