Mechanical Construction Estimator

Salary: $100,000 – $130,000 per year
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Construction Estimator to join our team in Stoney Creek, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate estimates and budgets for construction, design/build, and maintenance proposals, while supporting projects through the pre-construction and execution phases.
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of mechanical construction estimating experience, strong knowledge of Ontario construction practices, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Experience with Accubid and Microsoft Project is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed estimates and budgets for bids, design/build projects, and maintenance proposals, including material, labour, and equipment costs.
- Review tender documents, engineering drawings, specifications, and bid packages to determine project scope and requirements.
- Conduct quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications to calculate labour and material requirements.
- Review incoming and outgoing bid requests and identify potential bid opportunities through platforms such as Bids and Tenders, Biddingo, MERX, Ariba, and Bonfire.
- Request, review, and evaluate sub-trade proposals to ensure pricing accuracy and compliance with project plans and specifications.
- Participate in pre-construction planning, including project scope development, critical path scheduling, and identification of project risks and issues.
- Work closely with Project Managers to plan construction activities and develop project schedules using Microsoft Project.
- Establish project benchmarks and target costs and support forecasting, cost analysis, and change management.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to confirm project scope, requirements, and submission expectations.
- Support Project Managers throughout the construction phase by providing estimating and project-related information.
- Participate in project handover, execution, and close-out meetings.
- Participate in prequalification and proposal submissions.
- Review and validate all bid packages prior to submission to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
- Provide estimating and technical input to the project execution team as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 10+ years of mechanical construction estimating experience.
- Previous experience in the construction and/or service industry.
- Experience in project management or site supervision is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of construction practices, processes, and standards in Ontario.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical construction drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Excellent working knowledge of Accubid.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft Project.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Construction, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor pricing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
