Lead Mechanical Engineer | Edmonton, AB
Capital Engineering is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Edmonton team. In this role, you will provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects from concept through construction, mentor engineers, and work directly with clients to deliver safe, practical, and constructible solutions.

What You’ll Do
- Lead mechanical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design through detailed engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
- Provide technical direction and oversight to mechanical engineers, EITs and designers.
- Develop, review and stamp engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets, drawings, material requisitions and Engineering Work Packages (including isometrics, line designation tables, tie-point lists, etc.).
- Lead mechanical and piping design activities, including equipment selection, piping systems and layouts, as applicable to the project.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables for technical quality, accuracy and compliance with applicable codes, standards and project requirements.
- Work closely with Project Managers to establish scope, budgets, schedules, execution strategies and deliverables.
- Support procurement activities, including equipment specifications, technical bid evaluations and vendor document reviews.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning, including responding to RFIs, reviewing field issues and supporting resolution of technical queries.
- Participate in site visits, field surveys, construction reviews and client meetings as required.
- Identify and resolve technical issues and provide practical, constructible engineering solutions.
- Communicate directly with clients, contractors, vendors and other project stakeholders.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with Capital's safety, quality and engineering standards.
- Support the development of junior team members through technical guidance, mentoring and knowledge sharing.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA.
- 7+ years of progressive mechanical engineering experience, preferably within an EPC or engineering consulting supporting industrial environments.
- Experience delivering mechanical engineering work for oil & gas, oilsands, refining, petrochemical or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and piping systems, equipment and applicable engineering codes and standards (e.g. ASME B31.3, CSA Z662, etc.).
- Experience with piping stress analysis would be an asset.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment.
- Strong technical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead technical work while remaining hands-on with engineering deliverables.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions and engage directly with clients.
