About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior UX/UI Designer to support the design and delivery of user-centered digital experiences. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, QA teams, and other project partners to research, design, test, and continuously improve intuitive and accessible digital products.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on experience in UX/UI design, user research, wireframing, prototyping, workshops, and stakeholder engagement, along with proficiency in tools such as Figma and Canva.
Key Responsibilities
- Create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces for web and mobile applications.
- Design overall product functionality with a strong focus on user experience.
- Conduct user research, interviews, surveys, and usability testing.
- Translate research findings into:
- User flows
- User journeys
- Customer journey maps
- Sitemaps
- Wireframes
- Mockups
- Interactive prototypes
- Lead UX projects, design workshops, stakeholder alignment sessions, and consultation activities.
- Rapidly test, evaluate, and iterate designs based on user feedback.
- Identify UX and design problems and develop effective, elegant solutions.
- Make strategic UX/UI decisions related to core and new product features.
- Design experiences optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces.
- Gather user feedback and use insights to improve existing interfaces.
- Collaborate closely with developers, QA specialists, business stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams.
- Develop clear and comprehensive design documentation, reports, assessments, and presentations.
- Design digital displays, publications, media, and other creative materials as required.
- Consider accessibility and usability throughout the design process.
Required Qualifications
- Experience as a UX Designer, UI Designer, Interactive Designer, Product Designer, or similar role.
- Strong experience designing for web and mobile applications.
- Demonstrated experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience defining and leading UX projects, design workshops, and stakeholder alignment sessions.
- Strong experience conducting end-to-end user research, including recruiting, interviews, surveys, usability testing, and synthesis.
- Experience translating research into user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and other UX deliverables.
- Strong proficiency with Figma, Canva, and similar design/prototyping tools.
- Understanding of web development technologies and their limitations from a UX/design perspective.
- Experience designing responsive experiences across multiple devices and interfaces.
- Strong stakeholder communication and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with developers, QA teams, business users, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work within deadlines.
Communications & Collaboration
- Ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation.
- Strong ability to communicate design concepts and processes to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams at different organizational levels.
- Strong stakeholder and client relationship management skills.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Previous Ontario Public Service (OPS) or public-sector experience.
- Experience with the Ontario Service Design approach.
- Knowledge of the Ontario Design System.
- Knowledge of the Digital Service Standard.
- Experience with accessibility testing.
- Experience designing to WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
- Experience working with complex design challenges, including legacy systems and complex stakeholder/approval environments.
- Strong UI/UX background involving wireframing, surveys, questionnaires, consultation, and user research.
This is a 12-month contract with an opportunity for extension and requires 5 days onsite.
