Role Description
The Music Editor handles the technical placement of music in the cut, from temp track through final mix. You work alongside Cuenion's composers and Music Supervisor: they decide what the music should be, and you make sure it fits the picture precisely, survives every edit change, and arrives at the dub stage ready to mix.
Temp & Spotting
- Build and cut temp tracks with the picture editor to guide pacing and tone
- Attend spotting sessions and prepare detailed spotting notes for composers
- Flag temp choices that may be difficult to replace or clear, in coordination with the Music Supervisor
Editorial
- Cut and conform score and licensed music to picture, including through recuts and version changes
- Track cue timings, versions, and picture changes across multiple concurrent projects
- Prepare music sessions and stems for the dub stage
Mix & Documentation
- Attend final mixes to handle music changes in real time
- Support the Music Supervisor with accurate cue timings for cue sheets
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Music Editor on film, television, or advertising projects (please include credits)
- Proficiency in working to timecode and picture
- Strong musical literacy; the ability to edit orchestral and contemporary classical music seamlessly is a strong asset
- Experience conforming music through picture changes under tight deadlines
- Organized version tracking across concurrent projects
- Based in Ontario (Ontario residency matters for our clients' provincial tax credit eligibility)
