Role Description
The Supervising Sound Editor leads the sound team on a project from spotting session to final delivery. Working with Cuenion's Audio Director, the film's director, and producers, you help shape the sonic approach, build and run the editorial crew, and make sure every element arrives at the mix stage creatively strong, technically clean, and on schedule.
Creative Leadership
- Contribute ideas in spotting sessions with directors and producers to define the sound direction for each project
- Guide dialogue, ADR, sound effects, and Foley editors toward a unified creative vision
- Review and approve editorial work before it moves to the mix stage
Planning & Team Management
- Build sound budgets and schedules with Cuenion's Audio Director and Post-Production Coordinator
- Assign and oversee editorial crew across concurrent projects
- Flag scope changes, schedule risks, and budget pressure early
Mix & Delivery
- Attend pre-mixes and final mixes, working closely with the Re-Recording Mixer
- Ensure stems, M&E, and deliverables meet distributor and broadcaster specifications
- Sign off on QC before final delivery
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Supervising Sound Editor on feature film or episodic television (please include credits or a reel)
- Strong background in at least one editorial discipline: dialogue, effects, or sound design
- Expert Pro Tools proficiency; working knowledge of iZotope RX and Dolby Atmos workflows
- Thorough understanding of theatrical, streaming, and broadcast delivery specifications
- Experience building sound budgets and managing editorial teams
- Clear, confident communication with directors, producers, and post supervisors
- Based in Ontario (Ontario residency matters for our clients' provincial tax credit eligibility)
