Job Description:
Schedule: Monday to Friday – 30 hours per week
Location: 48 Syrette Lake Rd, Garden River, ON P6A 7A1
The Education Department is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and safety-focused Special Education Van Driver to support students with exceptional needs. The successful candidate will provide safe and dependable transportation to and from school while demonstrating professionalism, patience, cultural awareness, and a strong commitment to supporting students, families, and the Garden River First Nation community.

What You Will Do:
- Safely transport students with exceptional needs to and from their designated schools in Sault Ste. Marie, providing reliable and respectful transportation each day.
- Complete required vehicle inspections, maintain accurate transportation logs, and ensure the van remains clean, safe, and in good working condition. Comply with dealership dates for scheduled oil changes, tune-ups, etc.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, parents/guardians, Education staff, schools, and other relevant parties regarding transportation needs or concerns.
- Transport education-related supplies and equipment as directed by the Education Support Services Coordinator/Manager.
- Follow all applicable legislation, health and safety requirements, organizational policies, and Garden River First Nation’s Mission, Beliefs, and Vision while carrying out transportation duties.
- Perform other related duties as may be required and assigned.
Required Skills:
- A valid G Class Driver’s Licence.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, patience, and compassion when working with children and students with exceptional needs.
- Knowledge, understanding, and respect for First Nation culture, values, traditions, and the community of Garden River First Nation.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills, with the ability to work professionally with students, families, staff, and community members.
- Sound judgment, reliability, flexibility, and the ability to respond appropriately to changing situations while maintaining a safe, respectful, and culturally supportive environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Clear Driver’s Abstract and Clear CPIC required as a condition of employment.
- Must be willing to travel.
