The Respiratory Therapy Educator will be responsible for the orientation, preceptorship program and continuing education regarding new policies, procedures, medical directives, new technologies and new respiratory therapy management practices, along with coordinating the respiratory therapy students with academic partners. The Respiratory Therapy students’ will have placements across all HHS sites. The Respiratory Therapy Educator will be responsible for organizing and presenting in-services for staff on new cardio-respiratory equipment and technology purchased at HHS. This individual will also be responsible for collaborating with other educators to ensure appropriate corporate and/or program specific respiratory therapy education occurs. Other responsibilities include planning, implementing and evaluating programs to enhance performance of respiratory therapy staff; supporting and promoting quality care delivery for the critically ill/injured patient and family; promoting quality improvement, continuing education and development; providing ongoing performance feedback for respiratory therapists; consulting and liaising with Unit/Clinical Leaders, Interprofessional Practice Chiefs and Clinical Managers to ensure day-to-day maintenance and problem-solving regarding professional standards; and acting as a role model for professional standards. This position has specific teaching responsibility for respiratory care at Nursing Orientation and Critical Practice Orientation.
- Current General Class Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario
- Undergraduate level degree (or in progress), completion of undergraduate degree and master’s preferred
- Recent (3 years) experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an acute care facility with relevant adult/pediatric/neonatal experience
- Recent (1 year) experience in applying adult learning principles
- Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care services
- Facilitating quality improvement programs
- Demonstrated excellence in leadership, communication, organization, team building, and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated advanced critical thinking, assessment, planning, evaluation & coordination skills in a fast paced environment
- Knowledge of and the ability to work in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
- Knowledge and demonstrated competencies in Patient and Family Centred Care 11.Ability and knowledge to access hospital resources 12.Demonstrated excellence in the ability to initiate, model and support change in a constructive manner
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous education and learning for self and other
- Formal Simulation training or certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Simulation Canada)
