- Work Environment: This is an in-person, on-campus position. The successful candidate is expected to work from the Winnipeg campus and actively engage with prospective and enrolled students, faculty, staff, and community partners. Remote work is not available for this role.
Position Summary
Herzing College Winnipeg is seeking a motivated and student-focused Student Financial Advisor to help prospective and newly enrolled students navigate the financial aspects of starting their education. This role is critical in supporting students as they explore and secure funding through programs such as Manitoba Student Aid, Manitoba Jobs and Skills Development Centres, Indigenous funding sources, employer sponsorships, and other financial assistance opportunities.
As a Student Financial Advisor, you will play an integral role in removing financial barriers and helping students achieve their career goals. Working closely with our Admissions team, you will provide personalized guidance, ensure funding applications are completed accurately and on time, and support students throughout their journey from enrollment to program start.
The Student Financial Advisor reports directly to the Director of Student Enrollment and works collaboratively with both the Admissions and Student Financial Services teams to support student success.
Key Responsibilities
Student Financial Advising
- Guide prospective and newly enrolled students through the financial aid process from enrollment to program start.
- Assist students with applications for Manitoba Student Aid, Manitoba Jobs and Skills Development Centres, Indigenous funding organizations, and other available funding programs.
- Develop personalized financial plans that may include government funding, scholarships, sponsorships, payment arrangements, and personal resources.
- Educate students on funding eligibility requirements, application procedures, timelines, and responsibilities.
- Identify potential funding challenges and proactively recommend solutions to help students remain on track for their intended start dates.
- Maintain a strong understanding of provincial and institutional funding programs and communicate updates to students and colleagues.
Student Support & Relationship Building
- Respond to inquiries from prospective and enrolled students regarding funding options and financial assistance programs.
- Conduct follow-up calls, emails, and appointments to support students through each stage of the funding process.
- Build positive relationships with students by providing professional, compassionate, and solution-focused service.
- Work closely with Admissions Advisors to ensure students receive a seamless enrollment experience.
- Support students in overcoming financial obstacles that may impact their ability to start or continue their education.
Administration & Compliance
- Manage student funding files from application through approval and enrollment.
- Accurately maintain student records and funding documentation within the college's student management systems.
- Ensure funding applications are complete, accurate, and submitted within required timelines.
- Monitor approval statuses and communicate updates to students and internal stakeholders.
- Maintain compliance with Herzing College policies, Manitoba Student Aid requirements, and other applicable funding regulations.
- Prepare and maintain reports related to funding activity and student outcomes as required.
Campus & Community Engagement
- Participate in campus events such as Open Houses, information sessions, career fairs, and community outreach initiatives.
- Support recruitment and enrollment activities by providing expertise on financial assistance options.
- Develop positive working relationships with community partners, funding agencies, and government representatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to continuously improve the student experience and support institutional enrollment goals.
Qualifications
- College diploma or university degree, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Minimum of two years' experience in admissions, financial services, student advising, customer service, sales, recruitment, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Manitoba Student Aid and government-funded training programs is considered a strong asset.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a student-centered approach.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience using CRM or student information systems.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
