Accountant on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our client is responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The primary responsibilities of this position are to assist with the day-to-day transmission accounting functions and special projects. Reporting to the Manager, Transmission and Corporate Accounting, this position works as a team member within the accounting group and with other AESO staff as required. This is a 2-month term with possibility for extension, targeting Sept/Oct 2026 for a start date.
Responsibilities
- Transmission Operations
- Validate monthly supplier invoices against contract terms and financial model outputs
- Analyze and investigate invoice discrepancies working with internal and external parties via written and verbal communication to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Prepare monthly cost reporting and analysis to support accounting processes for supplier payments
- Assist with the compilation of quarterly revenue and cost forecasts and maintenance of forecasting models
- Assist with the processing and analysis of production month data for transmission-related revenues and costs
- IT System Development and Maintenance
- Assist with projects related to the IT systems/applications utilized in the settlement validation and reporting of transmission operations as required
- Aid in identifying business drivers which necessitate system changes
- Assist with communicating and documenting business requirements with IT
- Assist with the testing and validation of system changes as required
- Collaborate with team members and with Commercial Management to ensure transmission settlement aligns with contract expectations and communicate settlement requirements and capabilities
- General Accounting
- Accountable for month-end procedures for accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, transmission invoicing/settlement, and related financial reporting
- Identify and assist with the implementation of process efficiencies and enhancements to internal controls
- Assist with special projects and other general accounting as required
Qualifications
- 5+ years of related work experience as an accountant/financial analyst requiring an application of judgement though independent work in dynamic and non-routine activities
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong written and spoken communication skills
- Self-starter, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to see an issue through to resolution
- Highly adaptable in learning and working with new systems and software
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including ability to manipulate and analyze high volumes of data using advanced Microsoft Excel functions
- Previous involvement or experience with communicating IT system requirements considered an asset
- Strong time management and workload prioritization skills, with a strong commitment to perform duties autonomously and meeting deadlines
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, challenging and dynamic environment
- Natural curiosity and a passion for engaging in continuous learning opportunities
- Positive, service-driven attitude
- Working knowledge of Workday Financials is considered an asset
- Education and Certifications
- Professional CPA accounting designation or actively pursuing, or relevant work experience in lieu of an accounting designation
