The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the democratically elected National Government of the Red River Métis, also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are a distinct Indigenous Nation and People, and Canada's Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Senior Human Resources Generalist position within our Human Resources Department located at 150 Henry Avenue in Winnipeg, MB. The Senior Human Resources Generalist leads and oversees a broad range of HR functions, including not limited to employee relations, workplace investigations, performance management, policy compliance, and the development initiatives that enhance employee retention, engagement, and performance. The incumbent assists with benefits and pension administration as well as leave management. Remuneration will be dependent on experience and qualifications.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Oversee complex employee relations matters, provide guidance to leadership in accordance with applicable legislation and MMF Policy on employment matters including performance management, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline;
- Facilitate meetings with managers and employees regarding complex concerns;
- Lead investigations and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for leadership;
- Lead mediation, disciplinary and termination meetings and prepare letters;
- Provide guidance and oversee the Human Resources Generalists team;
- Lead programs to enhance employee retention, engagement and performance;
- Oversee policy development and compliance and assist with the administration of benefits and pension and leave management.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree/Certificate in Human Resources Management, Labour Relations or related discipline;
- CPHR Designation is an asset;
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a Human Resources Generalist role, with demonstrated supervisory or people-management experience required;
- Background/experience in employee relations, benefits and pension administration, and disability management;
- Demonstrated facilitation and public speaking skills;
- Strong knowledge and understanding of all employment related legislation and HR best practices;
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, time management, and negotiation skills;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, as well as knowledge and proficiency of ADP HRIS is preferred;
- A team player with a natural desire to meet deliverables and exceed expectations;
- Acceptable Criminal Record Check is required;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture, and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
