About the Client:
Our client is a profitable B2B SaaS, serving higher ed. It's platform is built into the daily workflow of the institutions it serves, making it hard to replace and customers stay for years. Growth so far has come from referrals and word of mouth. New investment is now funding a clear growth plan. That means building out sales and marketing, bringing AI and automation into the product, and expanding beyond its home market. The team is small and has been together a long time, with very little turnover. Leadership works closely with the team and makes decisions quickly. The company is remote first and GTA based, with regular in-person time that's increasing.
The Opportunity:
- Until now, the Founding team has owned the Product backlog and driven feature prioritization.
- You will be the first dedicated product hire.
- You will manage the day-to-day product lifecycle - from identifying and defining product needs through development, testing, release, and ongoing improvement.
- Alignment with the CEO and leadership team will be a central part of this role.
- You will own the roadmap, gather intel from customers, find out what needs to be built, and then work with the engineering team to bring it to the market.
- You will manage competing priorities across Engineering, Project Management, Sales, and Marketing, and enable these functions to work towards a common outcome.
- You will also define repeatable and scalable Product workflows across Feature Documentation, User Acceptance Testing, and Operational Readiness, with an eye towards implementing AI tooling and automation within said workflows.
The Skills/Requirement Needed to Succeed:
- Hands-on experience as a B2B Product Owner, ideally in higher education, healthcare, compliance, credentialing, or other highly regulated environment.
- You’re used to working on a highly-technical, data driven product where you partner closely with Engineering teams.
- You have extensive experience translating business needs into technical requirements, and communicating them to an Engineering team.
- You have designed Product workflows before, and/or been part of a lean, Founder-led startup.
- You have strong opinions on AI tooling and automation as applied to the Product workflow, and have some experience with vendor selection and implementation for said tooling.
