One-year term position
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Finance and Administration, provides professional financial guidance for all funds within the School of Continuing Studies (SCS). The Financial Analyst will support the Associate Director in providing key financial analysis and recommendations aligned to support the strategic focus and mission of SCS The Financial Analyst will participate in all financial activities to ensure best practices and processes are in place to maximize compliance with all internal and external policies and regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development and implementation of SCS budget forecast and periodic variance analysis. Collaborate with the department heads to ensure planning is aligned with SCS priorities. Ensure expenses are allocated to most appropriate funding sources to ensure compliance with grant, legislative, and institutional rules and regulations.
- Perform sensitivity and scenario analysis of existing and new programs to determine the fee structure of deregulated programs.
- Review partnership financial contracts and proposals and make recommendations to the academic or service unit under SCS.
- Provide guidance to the unit Directors, faculty and staff on the application of all internal and external financial policies & procedures, ensuring consistency and compliance across all departments.
- Engage in regular meetings with other functional areas within the units in SCS with regards to funding sources, processes, and issues.
- Provide, training and support to Program Managers & Program Administrators.
- Prepare and review departmental financial statements with the Fund Financial Managers to ensure the strategic direction of the departments is on track and, when necessary, address potential over-expenditures.
- Provide financial data to facilitate strategic planning and analysis.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and transaction mapping configuration in the Destiny One system.
- Organize and provide training and assistance to departments within SCS, on financial affairs and policies to ensure best practices are followed
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Experience in accounting, budget procedures and financial forecasting. Demonstrated financial analytical skills. Ability to administer multiple activities and projects. Demonstrated ability to work in a PC environment using advanced spreadsheet skills, databases, as well as experience with Workday, Minerva, Banner (FIS) and Crystal Reports. Proven ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines. Proven ability to work autonomously and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, solve problems, take initiative, and prioritize workload. Familiarity with academic and support staff and student regulations. Must be service oriented. Ability to communicate well with other units often involving investigation and problem solving. English, spoken and written. French, spoken and read.
