Production Manager
Location: Raleigh Campus, GRD – Final Assembly, Paintline, Grilles, Standard Aluminum
Reports To: Plant Manager, GRD
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of designated production departments. This role ensures the efficient execution of production tasks and supports the development of Supervisors within these areas through coaching, guidance, and support. The Production Manager oversees all aspects of production processes including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, continuous improvement, ensuring operational excellence through leadership, hands-on approach, and commitment to high-quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Workplace Safety Oversight & Compliance
- Conduct Regular Safety Audits and Gemba Walks
- Ensure Safety Audits and Gemba walks are conducted regularly within the production area to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Promote Active Engagement in Safe Work Practices
- Lead and promote safe work practices among team members and leadership. Enforce adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Accountability and Enforcement
- Hold team members accountable for adhering to safety protocols and address violations immediately.
- Incident Reporting and Management
- Oversee the reporting and investigation of safety incidents, near-misses, and hazards. Implement corrective measures to mitigate risks.
Quality Excellence & Compliance
- Ensure Products Meet Quality Standards
- Maintain compliance with company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Lead Initiatives to Improve Product Quality
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce defects. Address quality issues promptly.
- Timely Completion of Audit Findings and Corrective Actions
- Ensure timely responses to audit findings, opportunities for improvement (OFIs), and corrective actions.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise, Mentor, and Develop Teams
- Provide leadership and development opportunities to production supervisors and team members, fostering a positive work environment.
- Coordinate with Other Departments
- Work closely with Maintenance, Quality Control, Purchasing, Engineering and others to ensure seamless operations and alignment on goals.
- Facilitate Effective Communication
- Promote clear communication across all organizational levels. Conduct regular team meetings to discuss goals and address issues.
- Foster a Culture of Teamwork and Employee Development
- Encourage open communication and continuous learning to enhance employee engagement and morale.
Production Efficiency
- Develop and Implement Production Schedules
- Create and manage production schedules to maximize efficiency and meet delivery deadlines.
- Identify and Implement Process Improvements
- Analyze current processes to enhance productivity and reduce waste. Implement lean manufacturing principles where applicable.
- Track and Analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Monitor KPIs such as production rates, cycle times, and quality metrics to identify areas for improvement.
Production Planning & Coordination
- Develop and Implement Production Plans and Strategies
- Create production plans and strategies to meet targets and business objectives.
- Coordinate Production Activities and Personnel
- Ensure effective coordination of all production activities and personnel to meet operational goals.
- Monitor and Evaluate Production Performance
- Analyze production performance data to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency.
- Optimize Resource Allocation
- Manage resources, including labor, materials, and equipment, to maximize production output while controlling costs.
- Lead Continuous Improvement Initiatives
- Champion continuous improvement efforts to streamline processes, increase productivity, and maintain high quality.
- Prepare and Present Regular Production Reports
- Compile and present production reports and performance metrics to senior management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Post secondary education in a related field preferred.
- Proven experience in production management, with a track record of successfully leading production teams and meeting production targets.
- Strong knowledge of production processes, quality control, and lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective leadership and team-building abilities, with a focus on motivating and developing staff.
- Proficiency in using production management software and tools.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across departments and communicate effectively with employees at all levels.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
