About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate (2+ years post-call) to join its growing practice in Toronto. This is an excellent opportunity to work on sophisticated commercial disputes, gain meaningful advocacy experience, and develop strong client relationships while working alongside experienced litigators in a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with a broad range of commercial litigation matters, including contract disputes, shareholder disputes, professional negligence claims, commercial leasing disputes, insolvency-related matters, debt recovery, and other complex business disputes.
- Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, facta, applications, affidavits, and other litigation materials.
- Attend discoveries, mediations, hearings, motions, and court appearances.
- Develop litigation strategies and assist with case management from inception through resolution.
- Communicate directly with clients, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in settlement negotiations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
- Manage files effectively while collaborating with partners and colleagues across the firm.
- Contribute to business development and client relationship initiatives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 2+ years of commercial litigation experience.
- Experience handling a variety of commercial disputes and litigation matters.
- Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and advocacy skills.
- Experience preparing court materials, attending discoveries, and supporting motions and hearings.
- Strong organizational and file management abilities and excellent written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive approach and commitment to delivering exceptional client service.
