About this Role:
Our client is a well-established civil contractor in the Lower Mainland, known for their work in earthworks, underground utilities, road building, and site servicing across commercial, industrial, and municipal projects. They're looking for an experienced Construction Estimator to take a lead role on their estimating team, owning bids from takeoff through to award. Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you'll be the person who turns a set of drawings into an accurate, competitive number, and who sees that number through to a signed contract.
Responsibilities:
- Review plans, specifications, and tender documents to build accurate quantity takeoffs, including electronic earthworks modeling
- Solicit and secure supplier and subcontractor quotes
- Lead site visits and pre-bid meetings, and liaise directly with clients, owners, and engineers to nail down scope
- Prepare cost estimates and pricing strategy (lump sum and unit rate), and present key risks and pricing to management before submission
- Prepare and submit tender packages, proposals, and change orders
- Hand off awarded projects to the operations team with clear documentation and scope input
- Maintain a directory of suppliers and subcontractors, and keep developing professionally in the role
What You'll Need:
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or related field (an equivalent mix of education and hands-on estimating experience will also be considered)
- 5+ years of civil construction estimating experience
- Strong grasp of construction drawings, specs, and contracts
- Great communication and organizational skills, comfortable managing multiple deadlines
- Valid driver's license
Nice to Have:
- Progress toward a professional designation (AScT, CTech, PQS, or similar)
- Experience with HCSS HeavyBid or Carlson Software
- Field experience in civil construction, design, drafting, inspection, or survey
What We Can Offer You:
- $110,000 to $130,000 per year, based on experience
- Full-time, permanent role
- Extended health, dental, and vision benefits (after 3 months)
- RRSP matching and a wellness program
- Paid vacation and a genuinely supportive, team-first culture
