WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO
- Prepare designs, calculations and drawings for [roads, drainage, utilities, grading, site, structures] - Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and related tools to produce plans, profiles and models
- Run hydrology and hydraulic analysis (e.g. HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, SWMM)
- Prepare technical specifications, quantity take-offs and cost estimates - Review submittals, answer RFIs and support construction administration
- Visit sites for inspections, surveys and progress checks
- Prepare permit applications and coordinate with agencies, utilities and stakeholders
- Check designs against codes and standards (AASHTO, ASCE, ACI, state DOT, local requirements)
- Write reports, memos and design basis documents
- Support project schedules, budgets and QA/QC reviews
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
- Days 1 to 30: Learn our standards, tools and project workflows. Shadow senior engineers and visit active sites.
- Days 31 to 60: Take ownership of design tasks on live projects, with review and mentoring.
- Days 61 to 90: Lead a defined work package, join client or agency meetings, and agree your development plan.
MUST HAVE
✔ Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred)
✔ 0 to 5 years' experience (internships and co-ops count)
✔ EIT/FE certification, or eligibility and a plan to pass the FE exam
✔ Working knowledge of AutoCAD or Civil 3D
✔ Solid grasp of engineering fundamentals and calculations
✔ Clear written and verbal communication
✔ Authorization to work in the Canada
NICE TO HAVE
- PE license, or progress toward it
- Experience with HEC-RAS, SWMM, GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), Revit, Bluebeam or MicroStation
- Familiarity with DOT, municipal or federal-aid project requirements
- Field or construction exposure
- Experience in [transportation / water / land development / structural / geotechnical]
- Master's degree
