Position summary
The Rubber Liner applies protective rubber linings to pipes, fittings, tanks and custom fabrications. Whether you are an experienced liner or a hard-working candidate eager to learn a specialized trade, we provide the training, tools and team to help you succeed.
Key responsibilities
- Read and follow work orders, drawings and lining specifications.
- Prepare steel surfaces for lining, including inspection, solvent wiping, and applying primers, cements and adhesives.
- Measure, cut and fit uncured rubber sheets to pipes, fittings, tanks and fabricated assemblies.
- Apply rubber linings by hand, using rollers, stitchers and hand tools to eliminate air pockets and ensure full adhesion.
- Assist with curing operations, including loading and unloading the autoclave.
- Perform quality checks such as spark testing, hardness testing and visual inspection of finished linings.
- Trim, buff and repair linings as required to meet specifications.
- Keep the work area clean and organized (5S) and hand over job status at shift change.
- Support other shop activities (material handling, prep work) as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Health & safety responsibilities
As a worker under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the Rubber Liner must:
- Follow WHMIS requirements: read safety data sheets (SDS) and labels for solvents, cements and adhesives.
- Wear required PPE at all times, including CSA safety footwear, eye protection, gloves and respiratory protection as specified (PPE provided; fit testing provided).
- Control ignition sources near flammable solvents and use ventilation as required.
- Follow autoclave, spark-testing, lockout/tagout and confined space procedures where they apply.
- Handle and lift material safely, using cranes, hoists, forklifts or lift aids only when trained.
- Report hazards, near misses, injuries and equipment defects to the supervisor immediately.
- Participate in safety training, JHSC initiatives and workplace inspections.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow written specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work.
- Reliable attendance and a positive, team-first attitude.
- Able to work shift work, including rotating shifts and overtime as scheduled.
- Able to work safely in an industrial shop environment.
Preferred
- Previous rubber lining, tire, conveyor belt splicing, autobody or similar hands-on industrial experience - we will train the right candidate.
- Overhead crane and forklift experience.
Equivalent experience gained anywhere is considered; Canadian experience is not required.
Working conditions and physical demands
- Rubber shop environment with solvent odours, adhesives, heat from curing operations and large fabricated parts.
- Standing for long periods, bending, kneeling and working in awkward positions, including inside or around large components.
- Frequent lifting up to 23 kg (50 lb) unaided; heavier loads with hoists or lift aids.
- Shift work on rotating shifts, with overtime including occasional weekends during peak demand.
