Compensation
- $105,000 – $120,000* annual base salary

The Opportunity
This is a leadership-level opportunity for an experienced customs professional who can combine strong regulatory knowledge with team leadership, client consulting, and business development.
The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Customs Compliance team, ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance, resolve complex customer matters, and proactively identify opportunities to strengthen client compliance programs.
Position Description
- Provide senior-level guidance on Canadian customs, trade compliance, classification, and regulatory matters, serving as a resource for both clients and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor changes in customs legislation, CBSA requirements, trade regulations, and other government requirements, assessing their potential impact on client operations.
- Oversee the preparation and review of post-entry activities, including customs amendments, refunds, drawbacks, and related submissions.
- Build strong client relationships by understanding their customs requirements, identifying compliance considerations, and providing practical solutions to complex issues.
- Manage and prioritize the team’s workload to ensure deliverables are completed accurately, efficiently, and within established service expectations.
- Provide leadership and direction to customs compliance and consulting professionals, fostering employee engagement, development, and accountability.
- Partner with Human Resources on staffing requirements, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, employee development, and other people-related matters.
- Support clients through customs audits, compliance reviews, CBSA verifications, and other post-entry or regulatory requirements.
- Review and assess Free Trade Agreement documentation and supporting information to determine whether applicable goods meet qualifying requirements.
- Maintain and enhance client commodity information, classification data, and related customs records to support accurate and consistent customs processing.
- Develop and facilitate training sessions, presentations, and educational materials covering customs and trade compliance topics for clients and internal stakeholders.
- Investigate and respond to complex questions relating to customs procedures, regulatory interpretation, classification, and compliance obligations.
- Identify opportunities for additional consulting and advisory support through client reviews, compliance assessments, commodity analysis, and ongoing account discussions.
- Work closely with operational and cross-functional teams to address customs-related matters, improve processes, and implement effective compliance practices.
- Ensure customs documentation, systems, and records are maintained accurately and in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives and the ongoing development of customs compliance practices, procedures, and service offerings.
- Take on additional projects and responsibilities as required to support the broader objectives of the organization.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of management or supervisory experience within customs brokerage, customs compliance, trade compliance, or a related environment.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian customs and trade regulations, including OGD requirements, customs valuation, GST/HST, temporary imports, tariff classification, origin, and marking.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and build high-performing teams.
- Strong client management and customer service skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent research, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-motivated, well-organized, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
Education
- University degree or college diploma in customs brokerage, trade compliance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation required.
