One of our major clients is looking for an Industrial Hygiene Technician to join their team on an initial 6-month contract in Kitimat, BC.
Key Accountabilities
- Coordinate and deliver respiratory fit testing activities, including planning, employee scheduling, equipment preparation, quantitative testing, troubleshooting, report generation, employee follow-up, and record updates.
- Support noise, chemical, particulate, BTEX, NORM, and other exposure monitoring activities by preparing and calibrating equipment, briefing workers, documenting field conditions, maintaining sample integrity, completing chain-of-custody documentation, and uploading results into the IH data management tool.
- Provide chemical management support, including SDS sourcing and review, chemical approval tracking, eBinder and Cority data entry, chemical inventory reconciliation, WHMIS labelling support, SDS currency checks, and follow-up with requestors, warehouse, environment, and operations stakeholders.
- Maintain Industrial Hygiene data quality by migrating legacy records, updating Similar Exposure Group information, uploading reports, validating employee records, and ensuring fit testing, monitoring, calibration, and chemical records remain complete, traceable, and audit-ready.
- Support gas detector readiness and field response by verifying equipment status, calibration and bump test records, escalating issues, and assisting with documentation required for safe work execution and confined space readiness.
- Provide NORM testing and radiation related support by coordinating screening activities, documenting readings, supporting contractor interfaces, tracking follow-up actions, and escalating concerns to the Industrial Hygienist as required.
- Support turnaround and operational campaigns by coordinating IH equipment, monitoring logistics, field documentation, contractor interactions, and timely completion of IH deliverables before, during, and after field execution.
- Prepare routine status updates, dashboards, and summary reports to support IH performance tracking, compliance assurance, backlog visibility, business planning, and continuous improvement.
To be successful, you will have:
Qualification:
- Diploma or degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Science, Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Training or working knowledge in respiratory protection, quantitative fit testing, exposure monitoring, chemical management, WHMIS, sample chain-of-custody, and occupational hygiene field practices is preferred.
- Experience using EHS data systems such as Cority, eBinder, SDS platforms, SharePoint, Excel, Power BI, or similar record management and reporting tools is considered an asset.
Skills:
- Three to five years of relevant experience in Industrial Hygiene, occupational health and safety, environmental health, field monitoring, data management, or operational HSSE support.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, confidential, audit-ready records across multiple systems and workstreams.
- Practical field coordination capability, including equipment preparation, calibration checks, worker briefings, sample handling, contractor coordination, and follow-up tracking.
- Working knowledge of WorkSafe BC expectations, WHMIS, respiratory protection, exposure monitoring, occupational exposure limits, SDS management, and hierarchy of controls.
- Ability to coordinate priorities in a dynamic operating environment, including normal operations, turnaround campaigns, urgent field requests, and compliance-driven deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage frontline workers, supervisors, contractors, warehouse, environment, maintenance, operations, and HSSE stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify workflow gaps, improve data quality, reduce backlog, and simplify processes while maintaining compliance requirements.
