Your Opportunity:
Working under the general supervision of the Management team, the Unit Clerk is responsible for a variety of reception and communication duties. The Unit Clerk is the first point of contact on the unit and is partially responsible for the efficient flow and communication of all matters within the team and unit. The Unit Clerk plays a vital role in helping to foster a team environment in the unit by facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, patients and families and in maintaining confidentiality of patient information. Other members of the interdisciplinary team rely on the Unit Clerk's knowledge, communication and awareness of the overall unit operations.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk Course (including Medical Terminology) required. Well developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) in English required. Ability to prioritize and multi-task work to effectively cope with frequent interruptions, noise, nearby distractions and other stressful situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience with Connect Care, Netcare and other AHS IT applications preferred. Previous experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook preferred. Basic typing and computer skills are required.
