Construction Estimator
Seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join an established construction team working across a diverse portfolio of commercial and industrial projects.
This is an opportunity for an Estimator who enjoys taking ownership of the numbers, collaborating with project teams and trade partners, and having a meaningful influence on how projects are planned and ultimately delivered. You'll be involved from the early stages of an opportunity through pricing, scope development and project handoff.
Role and responsibilities:
You'll play a key role in developing competitive, accurate project budgets and bids.
- Interpreting architectural, structural and engineering drawings and translating them into detailed quantities and scopes
- Preparing complete estimates across multiple construction disciplines
- Developing labour, material, subcontractor and equipment pricing
- Soliciting and evaluating quotations from subcontractors, suppliers and other project partners
- Comparing proposals, identifying scope gaps and clarifying exclusions and assumptions
- Reviewing project documents and specifications to identify cost implications, risks and opportunities
- Performing cost and productivity analysis using historical project information and current market data
- Identifying alternative approaches or materials that may improve project value or constructability
- Working with project and development teams to define scopes and establish realistic project budgets
- Supporting the development of preliminary schedules and understanding how sequencing affects cost
- Responding to technical and pricing questions from subcontractors and suppliers
- Maintaining current market knowledge and developing productive relationships with key trades and suppliers
- Building and maintaining reliable subcontractor and supplier databases
- Preparing clear estimating documentation and communicating pricing assumptions to internal stakeholders
Desired experience:
- Experience estimating commercial, industrial or similarly complex construction projects
- Experience completing multi-trade quantity takeoffs and developing project estimates
- Previous experience with a General Contractor is strongly preferred
- A solid understanding of how buildings are constructed from design through completion
- Familiarity with construction sequencing and jobsite operations
- The ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation
- The ability to explain estimating assumptions and cost information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Base salary: $120,000 - $135,000
