Our client is an established Canadian manufacturer operating in the sporting goods and outdoor recreation industry. The organization specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of high-quality products, serving customers across domestic and international markets.
With a focus on product quality, innovation, and continuous improvement, the company offers a collaborative and hands-on working environment where employees have the opportunity to contribute to its ongoing growth and operational success.
For their Dynamics Engineering Team, they are looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer who will design innovative, precision mechanical products, driving them through the entire development process, from ideation to production. The new hire will turn concepts into manufacturable products through an iterative cycle of modeling, prototyping, testing, and revising until the design meets project requirements. Working across multiple concurrent projects, the Senior Product Design Engineer will collaborate with design, testing, and manufacturing to keep scope, costs, and timelines on track.
This is a full-time, permanent role requiring daily in-office presence in Chilliwack, BC.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop innovative, precision mechanical products from initial concept through to mass production.
- Translate product concepts and user requirements into functional, manufacturable designs.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using SolidWorks.
- Apply engineering fundamentals, including mechanical dynamics, mechanics of materials, and precision fabrication principles, to develop reliable product designs.
- Design components for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), considering processes such as injection molding and machining.
- Develop and interpret mechanical drawings, including functional dimensioning, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Build, test, and refine physical prototypes through iterative design, testing, and validation.
- Conduct engineering testing and analysis, including FEA, simulation, and design of experiments (DOE).
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials, including engineering polymers, metals, adhesives, coatings, and surface finishes.
- Collaborate with design, testing, and manufacturing teams to ensure products meet technical, quality, cost, and performance requirements.
- Manage multiple concurrent development projects, keeping scope, budgets, and timelines on track.
- Work with suppliers, vendors, and contract manufacturers to support product development and production.
- Participate in formal stage-gate or phase-gate product development processes.
- Continuously improve product designs based on testing results, manufacturing feedback, and end-user requirements.
- Maintain a user-centered approach, ensuring products deliver the expected levels of performance, precision, durability, and reliability.
