Our client, a leading Canadian manufacturer of electrical and utility products and custom metal-fabricated solutions. The company serves customers across the electrical, utility, industrial, energy, telecommunications, transportation, and other specialized markets.
They currently looking for a Operations Manager to join their growing team.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and direction for daily manufacturing and operational activities.
- Oversee Production, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Shipping/Receiving, and Maintenance functions.
- Develop and implement operational strategies that improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and profitability.
- Establish, monitor, and improve key operational KPIs, including production output, labour efficiency, scrap, downtime, quality, and on-time delivery.
- Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining customer commitments and quality standards.
- Optimize the use of labour, equipment, materials, and production capacity.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement practical solutions to improve workflow and throughput.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, waste reduction, and process optimization initiatives.
- Work closely with Engineering to improve manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and product manufacturability.
- Partner with Quality to maintain high product standards and support ISO 9001 requirements.
- Collaborate with Purchasing and Supply Chain to ensure appropriate availability of materials and components.
- Work with Shipping and Receiving to ensure accurate and timely movement of materials and finished products.
- Review operational performance, identify trends, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop and manage departmental budgets while identifying opportunities for cost reduction.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements, environmental regulations, and applicable industry standards.
- Lead, coach, and develop supervisors and employees to build a high-performing manufacturing team.
- Participate in recruitment, performance management, training, succession planning, and employee development.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with Sales and Engineering to support customer requirements, special projects, and new product introductions.
- Provide regular operational reporting and recommendations to senior management.
- Support strategic initiatives and other projects as required.
Qualifications:
- Bahcelor or Post-secondary education in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 6+ years of progressive manufacturing/operations management experience, ideally within a metal fabrication, electrical products, industrial equipment, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience managing multiple manufacturing functions and cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as CNC machining/punching, laser cutting, brake forming, welding, fabrication, powder coating, and assembly is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency programs.
- Experience working within an ISO 9001 environment is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of production planning, scheduling, capacity planning, labour utilization, and cost control.
- Experience establishing and managing operational KPIs.
- Strong financial and analytical skills, including budgeting and cost-reduction initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong computer skills and experience working with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office.
