Position
With offices in Stoney Creek (ON), Boisbriand (QC) and Saguenay (QC) and Edmonton (AB), we are currently looking for a licensed Electrician attached to our Stoney Creek team serving a varied clientele throughout Ontario.
Reporting to the Operations Manager and working alongside experienced electricians, the Junior Electrician performs/ Electrical Apprentice support the electrical installation and assembly work of overhead lifting equipment for our customersthroughout Ontario. In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your technical skills while working with skilled tradespeople, operators, supervisors, and equipment.
What You’ll Do
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and BOMs to support electrical installations and upgrades.
- Develop knowledge of electrical terminology, instrumentation, and industrial electrical systems.
- Assist with the installation, wiring, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, including panels, circuits, motors, and equipment on hoists and overhead cranes.
- Assist with drawing and/or editing electrical wiring diagrams to maintain the “As-Built” status of equipment.
- Follow local, provincial, and federal electrical codes, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
- Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical issues and faults in motor control circuits, relays, contactors, sensors, VFDs, and related components.
- Participate in factory running tests once the electrical installation is complete and assist with debugging issues that arise during testing.
- Follow strict safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure a safe work environment.
- Work closely with experienced electricians, contractors, engineers, and other team members to complete projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Perform electrical testing and verify circuit continuity in wiring, equipment, and fixtures under appropriate supervision.
- Assist with programming, modifying, maintaining, and troubleshooting VFD-controlled equipment.
- Perform basic mechanical tasks, including drilling, punching holes, grinding, cutting, tack welding, fastening, bolting, and bending and shaping structural steel as required.
- Perform assigned duties with precision and attention to detail.
- Follow instructions provided by the Lead Hand and/or Plant Manager.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work area.
- Work effectively with the Lead Hand and other team members.
- Wear appropriate safety gear in the performance of duties.
- Perform other shop duties when required.
- Participate in service jobs with service team technicians when required.
- Be available to work overtime when required.
Requirements
What you’ll bring:
- Enrolled in or willing to pursue an Ontario Electrical Apprenticeship program.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems, components, and industrial equipment.
- Basic ability to read and interpret blueprints, control diagrams, wiring drawings, and electrical symbols.
- Interest in developing skills in electrical troubleshooting and industrial automation.
- Familiarity with electrical testing equipment, including multimeters and basic troubleshooting tools, is an asset.
- Familiarity with VFD motor control systems is an asset.
- Familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems is an asset.
- Basic understanding of motors, contactors, relays, overloads, control circuits, sensors, and safety switches is an asset.
- Ability to identify potential electrical issues and seek guidance to determine appropriate corrective action.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and willingness to learn and follow safety procedures in a heavy industrial environment.
- Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Emergency Response training is an asset.
Previous experience in an industrial, manufacturing, construction, or electrical environment is an asset.
The position is on a basic schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday 7am to 3:30pm.
