Why Cardinal Mechanical?
At Cardinal Mechanical, the proud plumbing division of Rockport, we don't just offer a job - we provide an industry-leading package designed to give you long-term security, premium compensation, and personal perks. If you’re tired of the typical mechanical contractor grind, look at what we do differently:
- Zero Layoffs & 100% Internal Stability: Say goodbye to seasonal slowdowns or stress between projects. We work exclusively on Rockport's internal pipeline of projects, ensuring guaranteed, full-time hours 12 months a year.
- Premium, Above-Market Pay: We value top-tier talent and prove it where it matters most. Our hourly compensation packages are built to beat industry standards.
- One Team, Same Goal: We operate primarily alongside our own internal divisions - like Nitro Electric - we work as a unified internal team. Everyone is on the same page, working toward the same goal, making your job smoother, faster, and way less frustrating.
- Exclusive Discounted Apartment Rates: Looking for a premium place to live? Our crew gets exclusive, discounted rental rates on the modern buildings we build and manage right here in Winnipeg.
- Fast-Track to Leadership: We are growing rapidly and looking for our future site leaders. If you prove your technical skills and work ethic on-site, you will be fast-tracked directly into a Foreman or Site Supervisor role.
- 100% Winnipeg-Based Projects: No long highway hauls, out-of-province travel, or living out of hotel rooms. You are home with your family every single night.
- An Unmatched Team Culture: We leave the attitudes at the door. Enjoy an energetic, safe, and collaborative work environment alongside regular company events and team get-togethers.
About the Role
We are actively seeking a skilled, self-motivated Journeyperson Plumber to act as a critical driver on our large-scale multi-family residential and apartment builds across Winnipeg. In this role, you will lead complex installations, map out rough-ins, ensure strict code compliance, and help guide the apprentices on site. We want a pro who takes pride in clean mechanical work and is hungry to step up into site management.
Key Responsibilities
- System Installation & Rough-ins: Lead the installation, assembly, layout, and trim-out of complex plumbing, drainage, venting, and water distribution systems in multi-unit apartment complexes.
- Blueprint & Schematic Mastery: Accurately read and interpret master mechanical blueprints, architectural schematics, and technical drawings to efficiently map out layouts.
- Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoot and diagnose unexpected plumbing or structural routing issues on-site, executing quick and effective solutions.
- Tool Proficiency & Craftsmanship: Safely and expertly operate specialized plumbing tools, power tools, and relevant welding/soldering equipment.
- On-Site Collaboration: Work hand-in-hand with structural teams, electrical divisions (Nitro Electric), and other trades to ensure smooth, on-time project integration.
- Safety & Code Ownership: Ensure all mechanical and plumbing work flawlessly complies with the Manitoba Plumbing Code and provincial safety regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certification: Valid Journeyperson Plumber certification (Red Seal required).
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of commercial/multi-family mechanical systems. Experience with multi-family wood-frame or concrete residential builds is a major asset.
- Physical Capabilities: Physically fit and capable of handling heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, and working comfortably on ladders or active construction layouts.
- Mindset: A strong safety-first attitude, attention to detail, and a natural ability to work independently or lead a team on-site.
- Mobility: A valid Manitoba driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle to travel to various job sites within Winnipeg.
