Position summary
This new role adds capacity to our Shipping, Receiving and Picking team as project volume grows. The Associate focuses mainly on shipping, getting project orders packed, documented and loaded on time. They also float between shipping and receiving, supporting the Logistics Coordinator and Production Control day to day and covering both functions when they are away.
Key responsibilities
- Shipping (primary focus): prepare, pack, crate, band, wrap and label outgoing orders for current and upcoming project work, protecting finished and rubber-lined products from damage in transit.
- Prepare and check shipping paperwork such as packing slips and bills of lading, and help coordinate carrier pickups with the Logistics Coordinator.
- Load and unload trucks and trailers, and secure loads safely.
- Act as the floater between shipping and receiving, moving where support is needed each shift.
- Cover for the Logistics Coordinator (shipping) and Production Control (receiving) during vacations, absences and peak periods.
- Receiving: unload deliveries, check quantities and condition against purchase orders and packing slips, report discrepancies, and record receipts in the company system.
- Label, record and put away received materials in their correct locations.
- Picking: pick materials, parts and supplies for production and customer orders from pick lists and work orders, and stage them for the shop floor or shipment.
- Update inventory and transaction records accurately; help with cycle counts and inventory checks.
- Keep the warehouse, shipping area and yard clean, organized and clear of hazards (5S).
- Hand over job status at shift change and communicate open items to the Logistics Coordinator and Production Control.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Health & safety responsibilities
As a worker under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), the Associate must:
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes and other lifting equipment only after training and authorization.
- Use proper lifting techniques and lift aids; ask for help with heavy or awkward loads.
- Follow safe load securement, dock and trailer safety, and pedestrian traffic procedures.
- Follow WHMIS requirements when handling or shipping chemicals, solvents or adhesives.
- Wear required PPE at all times, including CSA safety footwear, high-visibility vest, gloves and eye protection (PPE provided).
- Report hazards, near misses, injuries and equipment defects to the supervisor immediately.
- Participate in safety training, JHSC initiatives and workplace inspections.
Qualifications
Required
- Ability to read pick lists, packing slips, labels and basic paperwork.
- Basic math and counting skills, and accuracy with numbers and part numbers.
- Basic computer skills for entering inventory and shipping transactions.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability and a team-first attitude.
- Able to work rotating shifts and overtime as scheduled.
Preferred
- Previous shipper/receiver, warehouse or material handling experience.
- Experience preparing shipping documents or processing receipts in an inventory or ERP system.
- Forklift experience; overhead crane experience.
- Experience crating or packing large or heavy industrial products.
Equivalent experience gained anywhere is considered; Canadian experience is not required.
Working conditions and physical demands
- Warehouse, shipping dock and outdoor yard work in all seasons.
- Standing, walking, bending, kneeling and climbing for most of an 8–10 hour shift.
- Frequent lifting up to 23 kg (50 lb) unaided; heavier loads with forklifts, cranes or lift aids.
- Rotating shifts, with overtime including occasional weekends during peak demand.
