Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced UX/UI Designer to create effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing digital experiences. The role focuses on user-centred design, research, prototyping, testing, and continuous iteration across web and mobile applications.
The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, developers, QA specialists, and other cross-functional team members to translate user needs into intuitive interfaces and digital experiences. The position requires strong hands-on UX/UI capabilities, experience leading UX activities and workshops, and the ability to manage end-to-end user research.
This is an onsite position requiring 5 days onsite.
Key Responsibilities
- Create
effective, user-friendly, and visually appealing interfaces.
- Design
overall product functionality to deliver a strong user experience and
continuously iterate designs based on user testing.
- Design
user interfaces for digital displays, publications, media, and other
creative materials as required.
- Apply
a user-centred design approach and rapidly test and iterate designs.
- Conceive
and conduct user research, interviews, and surveys.
- Translate
research findings into sitemaps, user flows, customer journey maps,
wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
General Skills | 55%
- Relevant
experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience
as a UX Designer, Interactive Designer, UI Designer, or similar role
designing web and mobile applications.
- Ability
to define and lead UX projects, design workshops, and alignment sessions
with stakeholders and business users.
- Experience
managing end-to-end user research, from recruiting through synthesis.
- Proficiency
with design and prototyping tools.
- Thorough
understanding of the limitations and appropriate use of web development
technologies.
- Experience
designing online programs with an emphasis on the emotional aspects of
human experience.
- Experience
conceiving and conducting user research, interviews, and surveys and
translating findings into sitemaps, user flows, user journey maps,
wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user
experiences.
- Experience
designing overall product functionality and iterating based on user
testing.
- Experience
designing and delivering wireframes, user stories, user flows, user
journeys, mockups, and prototypes optimized for a wide range of devices
and interfaces.
- Experience
researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing
experiences for digital products across a wide range of devices and
interfaces.
- Experience
identifying design problems and devising elegant solutions.
- Experience
making strategic design and user-experience decisions related to core and
new functions and features.
- Experience
gathering user feedback to configure existing interfaces.
- Team-oriented
approach with a track record of meeting deadlines, managing competing
priorities, and managing stakeholder relationships.
- Experience
with Figma, Canva, and similar tools.
Communication Skills | 30%
- Demonstrated
ability to prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive documentation,
including reports, reviews, and assessments.
- Skilled
at communicating design concepts and development processes clearly to
diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated
effectiveness working with cross-functional teams, including developers,
QA specialists, and business stakeholders, to achieve shared project
goals.
- Demonstrated
experience working collaboratively with team members at different
organizational levels.
Desirable Skills | 10%
- Knowledge
of accessibility testing.
- Ability
to work with the Ontario Design System.
- Knowledge
of digital service standards.
- Experience
addressing complex design challenges, particularly involving legacy
systems and nuanced stakeholder/approval relationships.
- Ability
to design with accessibility in mind and meet WCAG 2.1 AA requirements.
Prior Public Service Experience | 5%
- public-sector experience is considered an asset.
Must-Have Qualifications
- Relevant
experience creating GUI designs based on user interaction and performance.
- Experience

- Ability

and research.
