Position Overview:
As a Heavy-Duty Parts Technician, your primary responsibility is to support the service department by accurately identifying, locating, and supplying parts for vehicle repairs and maintenance. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of heavy-duty truck parts and inventory management processes.
Essential Functions and Purpose:
Principal Responsibilities:
- Provides prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable service to customers and technicians
- Handles front and back counter parts requests, including walk-in, phone, and email inquiries
- Quotes, locates, and sells parts based on customer or technician needs
- Sources parts from internal inventory, external suppliers, and manufacturers
- Manages incoming and outgoing parts orders, including verifying shipments and completing documentation
- Coordinates inter-branch transfers and urgent parts deliveries
- Processes warranty claims, core returns, and credits in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintains inventory accuracy through cycle counts, stock adjustments, and inventory audits
- Participates in ordering stock and special-order parts to maintain optimal inventory levels
- Assists in organizing and maintaining the parts department, including bin locations and labeling
- Provides updates to customers and service teams regarding order status, delays, and alternatives
- Trains and mentors junior parts staff or apprentices as required
- Ensures compliance with safety standards and dealership procedures
- Supports other departments and special projects as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a Parts Technician apprenticeship or equivalent experience
- Strong knowledge of truck, trailer, and equipment parts
- Experience working in a dealership or heavy-duty repair environment
- Ability to read and interpret parts catalogs, schematics, and technical diagrams
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proficiency in inventory software, POS systems, and dealership management systems
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proven problem-solving skills and customer-focused attitude
- Dealership or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Valid class 5 License with clean abstract.
