WSG delivers specialized construction, commissioning, maintenance, and technical support services to major industrial and energy projects across Canada and internationally. We are currently seeking an experienced Test Engineer & Technical Authority to join our project team and support the execution of critical hydrostatic, pneumatic, and valve testing activities.
Position Summary
The Test Engineer & Technical Authority serves as the lead technical authority for all testing activities within their designated scope. This role is responsible for developing and owning testing methodologies, valve-specific test procedures, temporary pressure system designs, technical query resolution, and test acceptance documentation.
The successful candidate must be present on site or immediately available whenever active testing operations are in progress to provide technical direction, support field execution teams, and ensure compliance with project specifications, regulatory requirements, and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and approve testing methodologies and execution strategies.
- Act as the technical authority for all pressure testing and valve testing activities.
- Prepare and validate valve-specific test bases and acceptance criteria.
- Design and approve temporary pressure systems used during testing operations.
- Review engineering documentation, drawings, vendor data, and testing packages.
- Resolve technical queries (TQs) related to testing activities and provide engineering guidance to project teams.
- Provide technical oversight for hydrostatic, pneumatic, leak, functionality, and specialty testing.
- Ensure testing activities comply with applicable codes, standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.
- Review and approve test procedures, risk assessments, and execution plans.
- Witness critical testing activities and provide technical support during execution.
- Review test records, test packs, and acceptance evidence to confirm compliance with project requirements.
- Support quality assurance and turnover requirements through verification of testing documentation.
- Interface with engineering, construction, client representatives, and quality teams to resolve technical issues.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to testing crews and field personnel.
- Participate in management of change (MOC) processes related to testing systems and procedures.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration in Canada preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in industrial construction, commissioning, testing, or pressure systems engineering.
- Strong knowledge of pressure testing methodologies, piping systems, valves, and mechanical completion processes.
- Experience developing temporary pressure system designs and test procedures.
- Familiarity with ASME, CSA, API, and applicable industry codes and standards.
- Experience supporting large industrial, LNG, energy, mining, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
Preferred Experience
- LNG facility construction and commissioning experience.
- Brownfield and greenfield project experience.
- Experience with valve testing programs and specialized commissioning activities.
- Previous experience acting as Responsible Engineer or Technical Authority for testing programs.
- Knowledge of quality turnover systems and completion management processes.
