Core Technician

Alamos Gold’s Young-Davidson is a low-cost, long-life operation and one of Canada’s largest underground gold mines. It is located near the town of Matachewan centrally located between Timmins, Kirkland Lake, North Bay and Sudbury, Ontario. The 2020 completion of a highly automated, lower mine expansion has resulted in Young-Davidson increasing production and generating strong free cash flow. With a large Mineral Reserve base, it will serve as Alamos’ foundation for growth for many years to come. Role Overview
As a Core Technician, you will play a key role in supporting the Geology and Exploration teams by ensuring the accurate handling, processing, sampling, and organization of diamond drill core. Reporting to the Senior Diamond Drilling Coordinator, you will be responsible for a wide range of core shack activities that contribute directly to exploration and resource definition programs. Working closely with geologists, core loggers, and exploration personnel, you will help maintain efficient operations while upholding high standards of safety, quality, and organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Core Processing: Handle, cut, sample, and organize exploration and definition diamond drill core.
- Core Management: Perform core orientation, RQD measurements, meter marking, and magnetic susceptibility measurements.
- Material Handling: Move, palletize, rack, tag, sort, and store core boxes, pulps, rejects, and related materials.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare and dispatch samples to external laboratories while maintaining accurate records.
- Data & Administrative Support: Complete data entry and maintain core cutting logs and related documentation.
- Geological Support: Assist core loggers and support field activities as required.
What You Bring to the Table
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in geology, mining, earth sciences, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Minimum 1 year of mining, exploration, or related industry experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license.

Working Conditions
- Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off; 11-hour shifts (steady days).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly lift up to 30 kg (60 lbs).

Salary Range: CAD $54,250 - $97,650
The expected salary range for this role is intended to support transparency and informed decision making. Final compensation will be based on skills, experience and internal equity.
