We are looking for a SOX Tester for a 5 months contract with high possibility of extension. Role is hybrid with 2 days a week on site in Downtown Montreal.
You will work with control owners and finance/business stakeholders to understand processes, perform testing, assess evidence, and document conclusions.
We are looking for professionals who are comfortable getting into the detail of a control and determining whether it is actually operating as intended.
What You'll Be Doing
- Perform walkthroughs with control owners to understand processes and key controls.
- Execute testing of SOX / ICFR controls, including reviewing samples and supporting evidence.
- Evaluate whether controls are appropriately designed and operating effectively.
- Document testing procedures, evidence reviewed, results, and conclusions.
- Investigate exceptions and work with stakeholders to understand root causes.
- Support the identification and documentation of control deficiencies.
- Follow up on remediation activities and perform re-testing where required.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready testing documentation.
- Communicate testing results and issues clearly to finance, control owners, and internal audit stakeholders.
- Support broader risk and internal-control assessments as needed.
What We're Looking For
- 3–4+ years of practical SOX, ICFR, internal controls, or controls-testing experience.
- Experience actually performing control testing, rather than only working in accounting or financial reporting.
- Good understanding of financial controls, risk, evidence, sampling, walkthroughs, and operating effectiveness.
- Strong written documentation skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable challenging evidence and asking control owners detailed questions.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple controls/testing activities.
- Fluent French and professional English.
- CPA is an asset, but hands-on SOX/controls experience is more important than the designation.
