Senior Financial Accountant (2 positions) for provincial government organization, downtown Toronto.

Target Compensation: From $47 per hour to $55 per hour, with some flexibility according to experience.
Regular Work Hours: 7.25 hours per day not including .75-hour unpaid lunch break, to be worked during regular business hours, Monday to Friday (36.25 work hours per week)
Work Location: Hybrid - combination of 2 days remote-based and 3 days onsite at client's Toronto office on PATH near TTC / Union and GO Stations. May change to 100% onsite during the course of the assignment, and you must be flexible to move to a 100% onsite work arrangement upon request.
Position Reports To: Controller.
Responsibilities Summary:
Lead accounting, financial reporting, and analysis, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and effective internal controls. Will support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making while contributing to ERP implementation and process improvements.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, audit support, and working paper documentation.
- Manage accounting activities related to the general ledger, payroll, tangible capital assets, inventory, treasury, cash management, and banking transactions.
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, forecasts, budgets, cash flow projections, and variance analyses for senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Support external audits, annual reporting requirements, board reporting, and compliance with Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS), GAAP, and internal control requirements.
- Monitor financial performance, identify risks and discrepancies, and provide recommendations to improve financial accuracy, compliance, and operational effectiveness.
- Support ERP implementation and optimization initiatives, including process mapping, data migration, data validation, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), system integrations, parallel testing, and end-user training.
- Develop and maintain financial procedures, internal controls, training materials, and standard operating processes to support business and system changes.
- Provide financial advice and analytical support to leadership on budgeting, forecasting, funding models, treasury management, and strategic decision-making.
- Contribute to finance-related activities associated with organizational acquisitions, integrations, and wind-up initiatives.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and overall organizational effectiveness.
- Additional senior financial accountant responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Education: University degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
Professional Credentials: CPA Designation required.
Preferred Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience within a public sector accounting environment.
Preferred Sector Experience: Experience from a public sector, government, broader public sector, or agency environment preferred.
Technical and Language Skills Requirements:
- Demonstrated advanced knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in financial reporting and controllership; budgeting, forecasting, treasury and payroll accounting (may be tested).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (will be tested).
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) (may be tested).
- Experience with Oracle Fusion.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal, including strong business writing skills, verbal presentation skills suitable for a diverse range of audiences including senior leadership.

- Exposure to data conversion, migration, testing, training, and change management initiatives.

- Demonstrated team leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and engage with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of seniority.
- Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, and in an advisory capacity, and liaise effectively with a wide and diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada, providing satisfactory documentation upon request.
- Ability to work both remotely and onsite, abiding by organization health and safety policies.
- Ability to promptly provide minimum of 3 reasonably recent, qualified employment references at point of client interview who are available to speak with either Marberg or Marberg's client.

- Provision of certification of AODA and OHSA online training course completion prior to assignment start.
