We are recruiting a full-time, permanent Accounting Specialist on behalf of one of Ottawa’s premier organizations. In this role, you will own day-to-day accounts payable and expense processing, serve as a key finance contact for employees and vendors, and support reconciliations, month-end activities, and other accounting tasks within a small, collaborative team. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable owning recurring processes, with sound judgment and a curiosity for improving processes and strengthening controls. They are outgoing, confident, and communicative, a relationship builder who works independently, adapts easily, and follows up persistently to see issues through resolution. Main responsibilities include:
- Own the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, general ledger coding, purchase order and contract verification, vendor payments, and resolution of invoice or payment issues
- Serve as a key accounts payable contact for business units and vendors, responding to inquiries and following issues through to resolution
- Process staff and corporate expenses, including monthly corporate credit card reconciliations
- Support account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end and year-end activities
- Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable and broader Finance processes, and support other Finance activities as needed

Qualifications:
The main qualifications for this role include:
- Formal accounting education
- 2+ years of experience in accounts payable, accounting operations, finance, or a similar role, including hands-on full-cycle AP experience and a working knowledge of journal entries, reconciliations, and the general ledger
- Solid technical skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience preparing and filing HST remittances and reconciling HST accounts
- Excellent communication and service-oriented skills, with a talent for collaborating with employees, vendors, and colleagues throughout the organization
