A leading packaging manufacturer dedicated to delivering high-quality innovative packaging solutions is seeking a hands-on Controller / Senior Accountant to oversee their financial operations and guide their financial strategy. Reporting directly to the management group you will oversee corporate accounting, standard costing, inventory valuation, and internal controls. The ideal candidate has strong roots in manufacturing accounting and the ability to translate financial data into actionable operational insights.
Compensation
- Competitive base salary of $90,000 – $110,000*, commensurate with experience

Position Description
Financial Management & Reporting
- Manage all day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide regular variance analysis (budget vs. actual).
- Oversee corporate cash flow forecasting and working capital management.
Plant & Manufacturing Accounting
- Maintain and improve the plant’s standard costing system.
- Oversee inventory valuation, including regular cycle counts, year-end physical audits, and scrap/obsolescence tracking.
- Analyze manufacturing variances (labour, material yield, and overhead absorption) to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Partner with the plant manager to evaluate production efficiency and capital expenditure (CapEx) projects.
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal tax requirements, including HST filing, corporate tax schedules, and EHT.
- Coordinate the year-end audit review process with external accountants.
- Maintain and strengthen internal control policies and procedures to safeguard company assets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) is strongly preferred.
- 5-10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Technical Skills Advanced proficiency in MS Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and hands-on experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Syspro, or Plex).
- Knowledge Deep understanding of product costing, inventory management, and Canadian accounting standards.
- Soft Skills Strong analytical mindset, excellent communication skills to collaborate with non-financial plant staff, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
