My client is seeking an experienced and highly organized Operations Project Manager to join their team on a 12-month contract during an exciting period of growth. This role will support the planning, coordination, and successful execution of key operational projects and initiatives across Canada. Working closely with the Director of Operations and cross-functional teams, the Operations Project Manager will help bring structure, accountability, and momentum to projects from planning through implementation. What you should expect:
Project Planning and Execution
- Lead and coordinate operational projects from initiation through implementation and completion.
- Develop detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, deliverables, and responsibilities.
- Monitor project progress and ensure deliverables remain on schedule and aligned with established objectives.
- Coordinate multiple workstreams and stakeholders to maintain accountability and momentum.
- Identify project risks, dependencies, resource requirements, and potential delays, and proactively develop solutions.
- Facilitate project meetings and maintain clear documentation of decisions, action items, responsibilities, and next steps.
Operational Improvement and Implementation
- Review existing operational processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Support the development and implementation of new operational processes, programs, and procedures.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, workflows, project requirements, and standard operating procedures.
- Support operational readiness for new programs, services, partnerships, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across the Operations function.
- Translate operational challenges into practical and measurable solutions.
Cross-Functional and Stakeholder Management
- Work collaboratively with Operations, Finance, IT, Customer Service, Communications, Legal/Compliance, and other departments as required.
- Coordinate with external vendors, service providers, recyclers, transportation partners, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure project stakeholders understand requirements, responsibilities, timelines, and deliverables.
- Facilitate effective communication and information sharing between departments and external partners.
- Escalate significant project risks, issues, or decisions to the appropriate leadership team member.
Performance Measurement, Reporting and Risk Management
- Develop and maintain project trackers, dashboards, status reports, and other project management tools.
- Establish appropriate project KPIs and monitor progress against agreed-upon objectives.
- Regularly report on project progress, risks, challenges, and opportunities to the Director of Operations and other senior leaders.
- Analyze operational information to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare project summaries, presentations, recommendations, and other materials for leadership.
- Identify and assess operational, financial, regulatory, and implementation risks and support the development of appropriate mitigation plans.
Project Governance and Transition
- Maintain organized and accurate project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure key decisions, changes, approvals, and project requirements are appropriately documented.
- Support change management and communication activities associated with new processes and operational initiatives.
- Coordinate the transition of completed projects to the appropriate operational owners.
- Conduct project close-outs and document lessons learned, outstanding actions, and opportunities for future improvement.
What you should bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations, Project Management, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in project management, operations, or a related role, ideally within a fast-paced, regulated, environmental, logistics, or mission-driven organization.
- Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to identify risks and proactively develop practical solutions.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience with project management tools, reporting, dashboards, and process documentation.
- PMP, CAPM, or other recognized project management certification is considered an asset.
- Experience within recycling, environmental services, waste management, logistics, supply chain, or regulated programs is considered an asset.
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset.
