Seeking a lawyer to join a growing practice focused on family and estate law. Candidates with family or estate experience are preferred, while lawyers from other practice areas with a strong interest in developing these skills are also considered.
Responsibilities
- Meet with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel
- Conduct legal research and analyze legislation and case law
- Review evidence and case files to identify key legal issues and develop strategies
- Draft agreements, pleadings, and other court documents
- Assist with negotiations, meetings, case preparation, and case management
- Attend court hearings and support senior counsel on active matters
- Manage files, deadlines, and ongoing legal projects
- Develop negotiation and mediation skills while independently handling matters
Qualifications
- LLB/JD and called to the Bar of British Columbia
- 3+ years of call
- Family and/or estate law experience is an asset
- Strong legal research, analytical, and argument-development skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and project-management abilities
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Willingness to appear in court and develop advocacy skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
- Proactive, self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn
- Strong client-service and interpersonal skills
