Job Title: Trade Settlement Officer
Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid)
Duration: 12 months contract (with possibility of extension/conversion)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Trade Settlement & Reconciliation Specialist to support client Securities' settlement operations, including daily reconciliations, trade matching, fails reporting, Excel processing, and data input across various platforms. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in banking or financial services, capital markets/trading, reconciliation, and trade settlements, with hands-on knowledge of CDS and DTC.
Preferred / Ideal Candidate Background
- Reconciliation experience, including identifying and resolving financial discrepancies.
- Capital markets and trading knowledge.
- Banking or financial services industry experience.
- Strong trade settlements experience, particularly CDS/DTC.
- Experience supporting settlement operations and working with multiple processing platforms.
Must-Have Skills
- Strong MS Excel: VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables, and Macros.
- Prior reconciliation experience, including identifying financial discrepancies.
- 5+ years of experience within the banking or financial services industry.
- Capital markets or trading knowledge.
- Trade settlements experience, specifically CDS/DTC.
Key Responsibilities
- Support client Securities settlement operations, including Excel processing and data input across various platforms.
- Prepare and provide fails reporting to clients according to established SLAs while ensuring appropriate management oversight.
- Investigate and respond to client and partner inquiries in a timely manner, typically same-day unless further investigation is required.
- Escalate issues to management when approval or oversight is required.
- Complete daily reconciliations, projections, and reporting within agreed timelines.
- Investigate, reconcile, and correct suspense and clearing outages, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution.
- Identify discrepancies and unmatched trades and communicate them to clients for resolution.
- Perform daily NI24-101 trade matching and provide reporting to clients and management.
- Perform CDS Arrow binds/netting procedures for impacted clients as required for NI24-101 trade matching purposes prior to 11 AM daily on T+1.
- Ensure all group processes are documented through formal procedures and assist with creating or reviewing procedures when requested.
- Identify and advise management of procedures that are not formalized or updated in SharePoint.
- Support cross-functional knowledge development through cross-training and job-shadowing.
- Coordinate adequate desk coverage during absences and periods of increased volumes.
- Ensure appropriate coverage of daily processing activities before planned absences.
- Create and send buy-in intents to clients and management when advised of regulatory short positions requiring coverage by the Clearing and Segregation team.
- Utilize standardized forms and procedures for creating, approving, and settling international trades.
- Review international settlement market reports daily and advise clients of issues that could impact settlement.
- Maintain awareness of international market buy-in rules to mitigate risk to the firm.
- Maintain awareness and understanding of Extended Failed Trade Reporting CIRO regulations and provide client education and reporting information when required.
- Provide timely trade status updates for Extended Failed Trade Reporting items when requested by management.
- Update settlement statistics on the shared drive daily.
- Regularly monitor and maintain group email inboxes.
- Review daily DTC and CDS >$10MM pending trade reports and advise clients of trades falling within their account ranges.
- Provide management with a status update for each applicable item by 4 PM daily.
- Access, match, and affirm DTC trade confirms on T+1 to support timely settlement.
- Develop increased proficiency with DTC OMGEO TradeSuite functionality and DTC PBS screens to facilitate trade confirmation and settlement activities.
- Maintain appropriate communication protocols by communicating with clients rather than directly with the end client.
